Diagnosing a mouse issue on a Toshiba Tecra Laptop
I have a Toshiba Tecra A4 laptop running Windows XP Pro.
It has 2 USB ports.
When I connect a mouse to any of the USB ports, I see the following
message (displayed only once, not consistenly each time I connect the
mouse to the USB port):
USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB ports has malfunctioned and Windows does not
recognize it.
I checked the Device Manager and verified...

Helpsvc.exe 95% CPU
HelpSvc takes up 95% of CPU usage. It seems to do it at its own will. Just
started the past week or so.
I found a KB for this problem @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933993, but
it says it applies to Windows Server 2003. Will this also work for XP?
The only ref I found for this with XP was to install the latest SP. I have
all the updates.

Error message- Help!
Hello, When trying to access my payroll infromation through my employer's web
site (I have done this successfully in the past) I get the whole way in and

Win98se cursors & themes
Does anyone know if it is possible to use Win98se themes and cursors in
WinXP. I have two drives hooked up, one with WinXP Pro SP2 and the other
Win98se. Can I copy cursor and theme files from Win98 to WinXP without a
problem. I have done this but it seems(not sure) that some of the cursors
give me trouble with the cursor locking up after awhile(not all the time). I

Speeding up WE searches
My 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo XP Home machine which I built has 6 hdds (4 sata's & 3
ide's, no raid config at present) with a total of 10 partitions, ~ 2,000 gig
of space, about half of which is currently full, mostly with thousands of

Under Reporting Hard Drive Size
I have a two hard drive system. One is a 12.7 Gigabyte capacity, and the
other one is and 80 gigabyte capacity. When I had Windows 98 SE, the software
put a dynamic drive overlay in the boot program. I upgraded to XP Home and

Convert Cd key to product ID
I have 4 compaq deskpro PC's that came with XP Pro. There are stickers on
the computers with the XP CD keys.
I want to take those keys and convert them to product ID's to replace the
current one on the registry.
Any ideas how to do this?

System Standby Failed
When I close my laptop, it usually goes into hibernation mode. I am now
getting the message "System Standby Failed. The device driver for the "Quick
Launch Buttons" drive is preventing the machine from entering hibernation."

Find folders
From what I have read on the net nothing is ever totally deleted. Where are
the folders that `old` info is kept eg hotmail etc.

Pop Up "CANVAS DOES NOT ALLOW DRAWING IN THIS AREA"

Memory could not be read
Off and on I get an error message on various different applications
The instruction at 0x........ referenced memory ar "0x,,,,,,,". The memory
could not be "read".
Does anyone know if this is a hardware or software problem. I can't stand to
go through the long process of the help desk if I will wind up having to

New PC - remove old user
I got a pc that had a previous owner, It has Win XP Pro. I have deleted all
user accounts but there are still folders and processes with that person's
name. I changed the computer name as well. When I go to task manager it still

Can't locate Ports (COM & LPT) in Device Manager
This is no dial tone when attempting to go online. Error. 633. The modem is
OK and is assigned to port COM3. The next step in the trouble shooter is to
check "Ports (COM & LPT)" in Device Manager. There is no such line in my
computer's Device Manager.

Protect Temporary Internet Files
Is there a way through registry or other means, to prevent
