XP Home login - log out problem

Software Restriction Policies and Symantec Antivirus

I recently implemented SRPs in my Windows network, thoroughly testing many
things before deployment. So, after deploying SRPs everything works fine:

question about operating system on moveable hard disk
Hi,
I have some questions: 1. Does it is possible that install the operation
system (such as windows xp) on the moveable hard disk? 2. Is it that a way to
install a operation system on moveable hard disk and enable it to work with

RAM question
This may not be proper place to post this but only NG I could think was
appropriate. Sorry if it's not.
I'm supposed to have 2GB RAM in this PC. It's showing 1910MB in Control
Panel>System. Is 1910MB the same as 1.9GB? Or is my PC not seeing both1GB
sticks?

Messenger Service Pop Up
When I sign on computer a window comes up in the center from "messenger
service" saying it is a message from System To Alert. Stop!! Immediate
attention required!! Windows has found critical system errors. Download
registry cleaner from www.clean32.com. Failure to act now may lead to data
loss and corruption.

Can't Delete Program
A friend's laptop has been infected with a program called Contravirus2.0 that
I cannot delete via Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, etc. After doing
the uninstall, the program automatically comes back, popping up. I have
deleted the desktop icon (I know this does not remove the program) and this
comes back too.

"Unknown device" in Device Manager for Intel DG965RY
I've just done a clean install of XP on a DG965RY motherboard twice. I've
got a Samsung HD401LJ HD and a Radeon X1950 video card. Each time I have a
question mark with "Other devices -> Unknown device" in my device manager.
I've installed all the drivers from the Intel and ATI websites on both
occasions and get the same result.

Automatic Updates Not Really Disabled?
In Windows XP, I've got automatic updates disabled (System Properties | Automatic
Updates, selected "Turn Off Automatic Updates")
However, Sysinternal's Process Explorer shows that shortly after boot, the windows
automatic updates program WUAUCLT.EXE runs.
Is there something I'm missing, or something else I should be selecting to disable
automatic updates???

XP Pro can not see new hard drive

Internet Connection Problem
I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2 and FireFox V2.0.0.4
Recently I have started facing a peculiar problem.
My Net connection is breaking down repeatedly.
If I am surfing a site, I can do it.
But if I want to go to another site I get the message firefox cannot find
the requested server.

hardware problems
One of my intel 865perl motherboard's sata connectors broke. My sata drives
connected as a Raid array - Consequently system will not boot - I do not have
Windows XP disk or back up - I do not know how to move (Ghost does not work
for this) the information on the drives to another single sata or ide drive
etc. Any ideas at how to get the information off the disk drive and/or reuse

I have a notebook with hard drive partitioned into drives C and D. When I
clcik on My Computer > Shared Documents it goes the shared documnets folderon

Recovering misallocated space
WinXP - I found out I was running out of HD space, so I started digging
to find files that I can free up. When I right-click on C:\Winnt in
windows explorer and click on properties, it shows 38 GB in 37349 files.
However, if I select all contents of Winnt, then right-click and hit
properties, it shows 6.9 GB in 35593 files. I'm not so worried about
the file count mismatch, but the size mismatch...

Go to "CP to install and configure system components"
A pretty new xp installation. Now when I attached my ext hdd, the pc detected
the hdd but when I try to open it by double click the partition, this message
appears:

Updates.
Update notification on boot this AM. Update set to automatic, but can't
get anything to download and install. Tried manual and same result. Just
won't download any of 4 listed updates. Obviously I'm doing something
wrong. I did go to another web site and was able to dowload files. What do
