Standby mode
Hi there all you experts, I have a Compaq Pesario running XP SP2. It's
connected to an ADSL 4 point router with an old HP running Windows 98SE. I've
had a problem all along that I'm trying to fix. When I put my Pesario in
standby mode it wakes up by its self. Could be a few minutes or an hour. Any
suggestions.
Thanks....

New to XP - - seeking partition recommendations
Hi!
Later this afternoon, I expect UPS to deliver my first PC with Windows XP
Home Edition installed. Presently, I am a stubborn Windows 98SE user and
was exceedingly reluctant to move to XP, and refuse to go Vista. Someday, I
expect to upgrade to Media Center 2005 or XP Pro, but neither were available
for my budget at Dell's Outlet.
I have several DOS-based programs, including AutoCAD...

Multiple pages of print, print on one piece of paper...HELP!
My situation is, if I print a document that's more then one page, all the
print goes on one piece of paper. Like as if the printer isn't getting the
page breaks.
I first notices this one my HP LJ 1300 that is connected locally by USB.
I found that is also happens on an HP LJ 4200n printer that I connect to via
its IP address.
We just bought an HP LJ 5550dnt that I found I can pr...

why all the .pdf e-mails?
Just a general question for the group regarding spam/viruses. Is it just me
or is there a sudden massive increase in .pdf file attachments in everybody
else's e-mails too? I run Mailwasher Pro so I delete these at the server
before they get to me. Is there some kind of virus or something circulating
out there in the guise of a .pdf file? I probably get about 30 a week.
Thanks, Steve T.

July Microsoft Update issues
Seems that there's a major problem with this month's updates. 2 machines
done, and problems with both. Only another 10 or so to sort out now.
The first machine was frozen when I got to it this morning, and required a
cold boot to get it back working. That's on XP Home.
The next machine here this evening (XP Pro with multiple user sign on's)
appeared to update and restart correctly, but...

Games crashes after July Updates
Since installing the various July updates all the DX9 games crash on loading
and shut down. I am running Win XP Pro on a Intel 6800 Extreme Core Duo 2 and
2GB RAM.
I remember that there was a similar problem with an update some time ago and
a fix was produced that you could download to fix the problem.
Anyone else had similar problems or know of a way to correct this behaviour?...

When is XP ready to go
I am assisting a person who has XP and wants to know when the computer is
ready to go - that the start up process is over. I thought that the icon
arrow for the mouse might show when it is ready - as the hourglass changes to
an arrow, but I am using Vista now and don't remember what XP does. Can I
get help so I can answer this question?

Well I can't see it being the video card, be interested how they came

The most likely cause is the laser or optical bloack as they are
usually called, there are optic's inside the block as well to seperate
