Network Printer
I have a small office with 5 computers all connected to a network hub. I want
to be able to print with the "network Laser printer". I have tried all the
suggestions turned off the firewalls, all the computers have File and printer
sharing turned on. When I try to find the printer, no printers or other
computers show up on the Microsoft network. What Next ? Thanks...

access denied for all usb devices
Nothing has change in my usage of the pc. Out of the blue, my pc can detect
my usb devices such as ext hdd, but when I try to open it by double click it,
it say 'access denied'. Its the same for my thumbdrive.
I have checked the bios (usb controllers enabled) and in device manager, it
seems ok (usb devices are enabled) and there is no password protection on my
usb devices. Any idea what...

Re: .NET Framework
I have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix
(KB886903) installed on my Win XP Home SP 2 Dell 8200 X 86 computer. But I do
not have .NET 2.0 or .NET 3.0 installed.
Is there any reason I should install either or both of them? (I'm not aware
of any problems due to not having them installed.)

Viewing GIF on IE
I having some gif images. I have viewed gif images on the internet explorer,
it seem that the gif images cant be animated. i have shut down the zonealarm
software, but still cannot slove the problem.. Please help me , cos it very

Robocopy repeatedly updates files on remote server
Can anyone explain to me why robocopy always tries to copy some files
everytime it syncs the source and destination even though the files
haven't been modified in some cases for days, months or years? The
options I used are:
Source : \\xyz\abc
Dest : \\def\jkl
Files : *
Options : /TEE /S /E /COPY:DAT /PURGE /MIR /R:1000000 /W:30

Using Windows XP Pro as File Server - Losing Connections
A small office is using a new Win XP Pro machine as a file server for
5 computers. Somehow, every week or so, people are losing connections
with the server. One or more of the workstations are not releasing
one of the 10 available licenses. I have set up a batch file to

KB936357 Win XP security update "breaks" OE6
Have installed KB936357 three times and each time it causes OE6 to work
improperly:
1. Will not download messages or even search all my accounts when first
started. Have close window, reopen before it downloads. Then, at some point

OS freezes
The motherboard on my computer failed and I replaced it with an identical
one and although the Windows loaded and worked ok it froze a couple of times
a day and the only option was to use the restart button (Ctrl+Alt+Del did
not work either). After about a week the OS refused to load with the

If I right click on the START button I have a number of commands/shortcuts

Latest MS update (KB928367) doesn't seem to install
I have my computer set to check for updates everynight. The other day when I
sat down at the computer I had the icon notifing me that an update was ready
to install. I clicked on it to install and it went through the usual process.

I have backed up my WinXP Pro and system state, in the event of a disaster

Incongruency
When I click on Start and point to Administrative Tools>Event Viewer, and
click on Applications there are no Error messages; if I click on System there

XP Client hangs on "preparing network connections" for about 2 min
Hi,
I have an XP client that was working fine, but now during the boot process
it takes an extra few minutes to get past the "preparing network connections"
component during start up. This machine is a domain memeber however this
behaviour is occuring when it is connected to the domain LAN and when it's
not connected. Any ideas?

Transfer Wizard Error on restore
I had to re-install XP Home and used FAST prior to this to save everything
to a flash drive. Re-installed the OS and then updated the computer to the
same state as it was. i.e SP2 plus all updates. When I run FAST it starts
running and the porgress bar starts moving. After some three or four minutes
it stops with an error saying it is unable to continue. The error message

White screen on boot
A minor point I have to admit -
When I boot up, I get a brief all white screen before things continue on to
a completely satisfactory boot, including my usual desktop photo. Any way
to replace this heart stopping white out on the boot-up???

Log in Error Message
When I switch on my PC and get to the welcome page, instead of getting my
user account name I get 2 error messages. One of which is the following:
DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably.
The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that

VOB Files & Hadwaer Acceleration
Folks:
For much of this month I have been using the latest version of RealPlayer to
play VOB files on DVD.
At first the video would be unstable (flickering) but the sound was clear &
sharp. So I played around with the Hardware Acceleration settings until
both video & audio were sharp & clear.
