How to set a default photo viewer in XP?
XP has decided that Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is going to be the default
application for opening any graphic I click on. The problem is, this isn't
the one I want. How do I change the default program for opening and viewing
graphics files?
I hope this hasn't already been answered elsewhere, and really appreciate
the help you folks give to wanna-be-geeks like me. :-)...

Search "Help"
When I begin to enter a search term ( as on Google) , typing the first
letter/symbol generates a list of past terms.
How do I eliminate items from this list?...

Where is the list of steps the network settings transfer floppy/usb executable does?
I'm trying to help some pour soul hundreds of miles away figure
out why they can't get networking going to a second pc, the first
one is working and on the net.
Doing this "remote control", when they don't know enough to be
able to do this on their own, only complicates things.

Backup with out a Floppy Drive in XP
I do not have a floppy drive for any of my computers. I have no interest in
purchasing one just to backup Windows XP.

Shut Down Problem
When I shut down/restart WXP MCE 2002, windows will not shut down and I have
to press the computer power button to get the computer to power down. Every
time, no matter if I log everyone off, or not, it just freezes at the point
of where it says Windows is shutting down and then nothing happens.

access denied for all usb devices
Any idea why when I plug inmy usb devices such as ext hdd or thumb drives, it
will not allow me to access it. These usb devices work ok with other pc.

No Sound, No Joy
I reformatted my computer a couple of days ago becasue certain programs would
not open. I successfully reinstalled XP and all my drivers. I had sound. I
donwloaded SP2 and my sound disappeared. I uninstalled my soundcard software
(soundmax) and re-installed it. Still no sound. I then right clicked on my

Ms. Office become error after runing system restore
hi...
after i used the system restore to restore my system to previous condition,
my Ms. Office become error, it alwasy ask for reinstall and reconfigure every
time I start using it (i.e when trying to open a document, it would go trough
installation first) and when i try to remove and reinstall it , it doesn't
work.

July Security Update Disaster
System:
Dell XPS
Intel Dual Core
2 gb memory
XP SP2 with all current updates.
Last night the sytem downloaded the July security pack. This morning it
installed and appeared to install properly.
Upon reboot the following occured:
Windows Live OneCare would not start.
Internet Explorer will not run.
System Restore Point will not run.

DVD/CD drive read games, but not music/pictures CDs?
Friend of mine is having a wierd problem with his CD drive.
1. If he puts a game CD or DVD in, the game starts.
2. If he puts a movie DVD, the movie plays.
3. If he inserts a music (Bought, not made) CD or a picture (made) CD in
and when he explores the disk, it brings up blank explorer window. Also,
the drive lable never changes from "DVD-RAM Drive (D:)".

cant get internet options to pop up.
Running Internet explorer 7, on internet tools i click internet options and

sidewinder: looking for game controller software to work with XP
When loading sidewinder precision pro on my new XP computer, software 3.0
contains incompatable drivers. Going into control panel then game controller
and selecting the sidewinder autodetect option, the popup "your gameport or

double xp trouble
my laptop was working fine, a client computer on a home wireless router. Out
of nowhere it won't connect to the internet and there is an error message

Not everything in startup loads (random)
Hi all,
Several things set to run at startup randomly fail. Usually Nod
Antivirus, Comodo Firewall, Ad-watch 2007 or the volume icon. Is there a
registry or other fix for this problem or is it more complex?
I have scanned for viruses & spyware but found nothing.

SFC and Windows update
As I understand it, if the system file checker discovers a missing file, it
is replaced from the original installation CD. However, this may be out of
date. If I subsequently run Windows update, will the out of date file be
detected and updated? What is confusing me is that if Windows update can
detect an individual file being out of date, why can't it detect the missing

Keyboards do not work on new install of XP
I have a brand new Dell M90 laptop, it came with Vista loaded but Vista is
