Unknown file extension - Don't go to internet
I followed the directions on Kelly's site to create a reg entry. This is so
that if Windows XP Home doesn't recognize a file extension, that it won't
give a dialog asking whether to go online and search the internet for it. I
then exported the reg key I created, edited it to remove the other entries,
and came up with this:

Shortcuts Don't Work
I've got a new install of XP Home SP2 and most of the updates. Just a few
minutes ago, my shortcuts quit working. None of them work -- shortcuts that
Windows put on the Quick Launch bar, in the Start Menu; shortcuts that I
made and put elsewhere -- none of them work. When I click, nothing happens.
I rolled back using System Restore, to a point where I knew the shortcuts
were okay. T...

Explorer Defaults to "Show in Groups"
on my CD ROM data discs, whenever I look at them Explorer defaults to "Show
in Groups". My views of folders on my C:\ and other drives are just fine.
So I right click and unselect that, but it only applies to the current
folder. I tried the APPLY to ALL FOLDERS and shutdown explorer and restarted
it, but nada.
Anyway to neutralize this behavior ?...

Additional Fonts folder
The normal font folder is /windows/fonts.
It displays not only the filename but also the font name, which is
often not apparent from the filename. This is very useful to me.
I'd like to have another folder, on a different drive, display both
file and font name as well, but I can't figure out how to do it.
Clicking on the details bar allows me to add various columns such as
'camera', 'art...

Logon using a link
Hello,
I want to create a link on Logon Screen. When I click on this link
(without typing in username/password/Domain info) it should take me to
a website. And I should not be able to minimize this page to access
desktop and the Start Menu should give only Logoff option.
Can anyone please guide me how to do this ?
O.S: Windows XP SP2

Faisal.

Display Properties reverts to Windows XP
Hi,
I am a Windows XP Home Edition user and prefer the standard gray Windows
Classic buttons, color schemes, screen saver, etc, over the more
eye-straining Windows XP.
The problem is that after setting Themes to Windows Classic, after rebooting
the the Display Properties reverts to Windows XP.
I reloaded the O/S and the problem remains.
My Display Properties settings are set to (or ...

List of keys for the ...\Explorer\AppKey registry keys?
In the Windows registry, there is an area that defines what Windows should
do when specific keys are pressed. For example, key "16" should start the
Media Player. The setting for this is located in the registry at
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\16\"
There are also events handled by the Microsoft IntelliType Pro software.
These events are st...

Block Emptying the Recycle Bin
I know the answer is no, but I'll ask anyway....
Is there a way to block someone from emptying the recycle bin? I have my
students create folders on a shared computer and I am afraid of sabotage. I
could care less if they delete the files, I just don't want them to go away
when the recycle bin is emptied.
Anyone ever try this before and have it work?

Aborting Repair Install
I boneheadedly started a repair install on an XP-Pro box with an XP-Home CD.
When it came time to enter the license code, the XP-Pro license number was
not accepted (obviously). That's when I read the sticker more closely. :-)
Now, there does not appear to be a way to "start over" with the repair
install using the correct CD. Rebooting just takes me back the middle of
the install.

Can't add "favorites" to taskbar
My PC at work is "locked down" - I cannot access the start menu and taskbar
settings, the Run command, the Command prompt, etc. I am trying to find a
way to simply add my favorites to the start menu without having to work
through an Admin.
Any ideas? Thanks!...

Links folder in IE Favorites
As a default, there is a "Links" folder in the IE Favorites (IE 6). I don't
use it--I have other folders with more appropriate names. If I delete it, it
just resets itself and is back again. It's kind of annoying. Does anyone
know if I can delete it permanently from the registry?
I also noticed the same thing with the My Music and My Videos folders.

Add Click sound to one key
I'm using Win MCE 2005 / XP Pro. I recall in a previous version of

to assign a sound to the PRINT SCREEN key. I'd like to add that to my
keyboard.
I would appreciate any directions to do that. Thank you!
