Automatically Adding Icons to Desktop
In my corporation, the desktop guys have set something up on the local
computers that restores certain shortcuts to the desktop everytime the system
boots. So even if I delete, for example, the shortcut to Lotus Notes, when I
reboot, the desktop icon comes back! I've searched all over the place for
batch files, VBSs, etc., that are recreating these icons and I cannot figure
it out. I ...

Random Thumbnails?
Have searched around the site and other places for an answer to this, and
couldn't find one that answered it specifically, and I don't want to muck
around with settings I don't understand. As far as I could tell, I think it's
something to do with the registry, but I thought asking people would be
better then going by instructions I'm not sure of.
I use thumbnail view for various things ...

Changing default icon for folder shortcuts
Hi,
I'd like to change the default icon for shortcuts to folders. I have thus
far been doing each one manually and would like to automate it. I have
perused the file types dialog and don't see an entry for shortcuts to
folders, yet when you create a shortcut to one, it creates a folder icon with
the shortcut indicator on it.
How do I do that?
Thanks!

Cannot get active desk top back
Coincidentally or not, after installing a new webcam to replace an existing,
earlier generation webcam of a different make, my computer suddenly notified
me that it was turning off the Active Desk Top. It replaced with a safe mode
desktop. Notwithstanding all attempts, including uninstalling the new webcam
and its driver, the pre-existing camera, trying to back to earlier safe

Roxio Wont Burn a CD
Running Windows XP Pro and Roxio 9:
Every time I try to burn a CD, my Roxio gives me a message telling me that I
need to put in a Blank CD. It's not the CD... I've tried several. My
system drivers are good. When CD is put in, it shows up as a Blank CD
through Windows Explorer. But Roxio seems to not recognize this.

Adding a new option to Explorer context menu for ALL file types

How to change the 'up/down sort icon' on list headers
Hi All
Does anyone know if there is a way using the WinXP themes (visual
styles) to control the size of the image used to show the up/down
sort status for a list column? In the theme I'm using, they seem to be
very large/wide, causing the list columns to be unduly wide. I don't
want to use owner-draw here, in fact I'm trying to update a custom
header control away form using owner-draw and...

Screen location of error msgs, dialog windows, etc.
I have begun using dual monitors on one of my machines.
Splash screens, error messages, confirmation pop-ups (such as the one for
emptying the Recycle Bin) show up in the center of the display. That would
be fine, except now the center is the gap between the two monitors.
Is there something I could tweak in the Registry to specify a new location
for such things?
Thanks....
