Search for text in a file not working...
Hi,
I have some files listed as err file and when I use the search facility to
look for text within them it doesn't find any file. The file opens in
Notepad and can be read.
Any ideas?

user groups
I have one user account (Home) and one called Guests (which is never used).
when is go to User Accounts in Control Panel they are all that are seen.
When I use Windows Explorer there is a duplicate account (Glenardis) which
appears to have exactly the same files as Home, including photos I have
downloaded, scans, and music.
Is it ok to delete the shadow account...it sure seems to be s...

Hiding your inactive notification icons
I have been using Windows XP for over 6 years now and have been told at least
once a day if not more that Windows XP is hiding my inactive notification
icons. Finally, after 2000+ messages I get the point. It is no longer
necessary to remind me where my inactive icons are.
Is there a way to turn off just that one message without turning off all

Hidden pagefile.sys
Using My Computer/performance/advanced I have set the following pagefiles:
(a) Disc C: 5-50MB pagefile.sys
(b) Disc D: no pagefile.sys
(c) Disk G: volume "Scratch disc" no pagefile .sys
(d) Disc H: volume "pagefile disc" 50-1500MB pagefile.sys
If I use Search I see pagefile.sys in H: but not in C: why is this?

Hi,
I once saw somebody use the select tool in ms paint to select an area
in another window, it was just like taking a screenshot over a limited
area.
He used the select tool while holding down a key (or keys) on the
keyboard.
Does anyone know what keys these were?

My Network Places
I've got two systems both running "Win'XP Home". On one of them I click "My
Network Places>Entire Network>Microsoft Windows Network>Mshome" and it
contains a directory labeled with the name of my machine. I open this
directory and it contains the names of all the shared directories on the
machine. On the other machine clicking the directory yields an error

Hi,
Please help me, what is the lidb2.mdb file located in Windows\System32. Is
this a general problem or am I the only one encountering this problem. I get
this error message (cannot find file c:\Windows\System32\lidb2.mdb) when
windows has finished starting up.

USB 2.0 Problem
My computer won't recognise a 2GB SD card which holds digital photos but has
no problem with a 1GB card. Is this perhaps a fault with the USB 2.0 driver
or maybe more likely a fault with the 2GB card. Any ideas? I'm using the
same cable same USB socket and the only variable is the card itself and
perhaps the electrical resistance this may set up within the USB 2.0 socket
!!

How long should a 4GB DVD take to write at 16x?
I'm backing up files on a Win XP pro Dell, 1GB of memory, 2.8Ghz, to a
DVD using Nero Express 6. In the dialog box while it's writing to the DVD,
the clock starts to count down from 5 minutes and it says it's writing at
22,160 KB/s. My math(could be wrong) says this should be done in that amount
of time. It takes about an hour. Any suggestions?

Network file access problems
I have a network of 3 machines - two running XP Home SP2 called say XP1 and
XP2 and one running windows 98, W98.
Just recently I have lost access to shared folders on XP1 from the other
two. XP1 also hosts the network printer but that is still working fine from
all machines. XP1 can still access the shared folders on both XP2 and W98
and XP2 and W98 can access each others folders.

Administrator problems
On several occasions I get an error message saying I do not have the
administrative authority to change something. My user acoount says it is the

Old Print Document Queued in Spoolsv.exe
Old document queued in Spoolsv.exe causing spoolsv.exe to run 98-100% CPU.
Cannot clear spoolsv.exe, or delete document nor can I delete printer that
initiated the print request.
How can I clear and free up the Spoolsv.exe?
