O.k I dont know what happend? I cant seem to minizie anything it just
goes away..? Nothing shows on the bottom of my screen, there are no
windows there? Yes I have my toolbar there but thats it nothing else..
how do I get my windows to show again.. Thanks

text jibberish/missing text
I loose the abitlity to read the headings for Text, Edit, Print etc... on my
tool bar. Drop downs become dashes. Or text in headings & dropdowns look
like Chinese. No offense. Or I get a 1 or 2 wide horizontal bar across the
screen that blocks everything behind it. It makes it hard to work when you
can't read where you are going. Any suggestions?...

Lost taskbar / toolbar
I let my daughter play a game and then when she was down , the taskbar at the
bottom of desktop was gone. Just gone, not dragged to the side, I cannot find
anything in my computer or control panel to bring it back. Please help!

Keyboard
I have a Microsoft 2000 keyboard that my wife didn't like. She went to the
store and got a Microsoft 500 wire keyboard. When I hooked it up the
computer wouldn't recognize it. It did not come with a CD install disk. So I
went to Microsoft and got what appears to be an "update" file. I downloaded
it, ran it but the pc still won't connect to it. Also the Keyboard "now'

Desktop display problem
I was trying to customize my desktop and a weird white bar appeared on the
right
side of the screen. It is sizeable to about an inch from the right. When I
right clicked on the area and checked source it displayed a text file with
html code for
about:blank which it says windows auto created. Now I did set my home page
in Internet Explorer to a blank page before I edited my display pro...

can i save folder views?
if i move some files around within a folder and then exit and return the
'customixed; view of the folders is gone. Is there a setting that will allow

Outlook Express Logon
When I open Outlook Express a logon box appears. I click ok the box
disappears then I open a message to read it and the box appears again
and closes my message.How can I get the box off once and for all?

administrator without admin rights
Windows XP Home Edition service pack 2
When I am logged in with an adminstrative profile, I am, sometimes, told I
do not have administrative priviledges. I even stared in safe mode, logged in
on the administrative log in, still got the same denial. This happens when I
try to use regedit. Any solutions?

Cannot install applications
I have windows xp on a Dell Dimension. The computer was infected by
virus and malware/spyware, and I had to use recovery console to
reinstall windows XP. I also ran counterspy to remove the virus and

No video just audio.
I cannot play a dvd. With media player i get audio but no video. With WinDvd,
i get nothing. There is a message that pops up saying, "Create Overlay
Failed".

Why?
Why did Microsoft decide that everyone wanted a system that needs an
administrator? Most home PC users only want the machine to start up and run

User log in screen
I have recently setup my next door neighbour with an email address on
hotmail, there is currently no emails to receive but windows says there is 1
message for the account created, i have checked every email acccount
outlook,express and hotmail with no emails present. Any idea how i stop
windows from reporting this email that does not exist please.

wiping hared drive clean/restore using CD/restoring files
I have 4 users on my desktop computer.
I have an external HD much bigger then my computer's HD...I am
planning to save c:docs an settings to the external HD, wipe the
computer, restore using Compaq's CD, recreate all 4 users, then
restoring c:docs and settings.
All 3rd party programs can then be re-installed from CD's or

Refreshing my desktop
When I have all windows minimized in my laptop, if I right-click on my
desktop wallpaper and click "Refresh" all my icons are moved to the left of
the screen. It also happens when I reboot or startup the laptop. My other
computers don't do that, and it's driving me bonkers! Any idea how I can stop
the icons from moving? Thanks!

Good book for intermediate used converting from Win2K
I am looking for a good book on WinXP that is not too moch of a primer
but not too advanced or esoteric.
I have been using PCs for many years and on PC from the PC1 and DOS
thru Win 3.0 to Win2K. I understand the basics (file structure,

Disappearing pagefile.sys
I have been trying to set a very small pagefile in my XP system drive and
using a larger pagefile in a separate hard drive. I set min and max sizes
for both pagefiles so neither is "system managed".
If I set the system pagefile.sys too small e.g. 2min - 20Max, it disappears.
Is there a minimum values of "minimum" and minimum value of "maximum" to
keep the "system pagefile" alive?

how to share external HD between 2 networked computers?
A friend of mine helped set up the wireless network between our laptop
and desktop...both share the internet connection and we use 1 folder
to move files between the 2 computers.
Sees like we should be able to do a llot more.
How do I set it up so external HD connected to the desktop is
available to the laptop through the network??
Can my daughter access the desktop printer from the lapt...

Pin to start menu
Hello,
If I pin a shortcut to the startmenu, where does XP store this
information?
Is there a folder oder a registry key where these shortcuts are
stored?
The problem is, all the shortcuts I pinned to the start menu have
disappeared, if i knew where windows keeps this information, I could
check some older backups and restore these entries manually, the only
thing is, I don't remember...

batch file question
I want to write a small batch file that I will Schedule in win2k to
run every day at a certain time. This script needs to do the
following:
get today's day, i.e Monday, Tuesday, etc. and then run a command
inserting today's day into two places of the source path. like this:

Trouble after updating to IE 7
I recently updated to the recommended Internet Explorer 7. After doing so, I
cannot open any programs on my desktop. Musicmatch, Roxio, the control panel
etc. Help with any possible reasons for this would be much
appreciated......I'm running XP btw.
