can media player 9 play dvd's?
Hi,
I tried to play a dvd on my xp home with media player 9 on it and it said it
didn't have a codec for it and asked if i wanted to check on the web so i
said yes and it took me to a site that was talking about vista.
Can meadia player 9 play dvd's?

Zone Alarm
Using XPHome, SP2
Read this site regularly. Often have seen recommendations for using
ZoneAlarm instead of Windows Firewall.
Dowloadeed ZA; it was larger than AV I was using. However, when studying ZA
instructions, etc., I began to get the feeling that ZA does not include
anti-virus.

icons not appearing properly
Many of my document icons(particulary MS word) appear as 4 lines
although the name of the icon is visible. Sometimes they reappear on

CMOS battery
I'm told the typical life of a CMOS battery may be anywhere from 5-9 years.
IF a computer is powered off most of the time {a spare backup computer},
will the battery last just as long?
Or, is the 5-9 year estimated life of the battery predicated upon the
computer being in regular use?

Add Word98 to WindowsXP
I would like to add Word98 to my WindowsXP. However, when I insert the
Word disc, I'm told I must add the software in MS-Dos mode. Not only do
I not know how to do this, but I'm frightened that if I proceed, I will
really mess something up! Any suggestions on how to add the Word98

Screensaver stops automatically
I`m writing this for my brother. His screensaver will come on, but in
a few minutes it just stops and the screen turns black without anyone
touching the computer, then when he moves the mouse the picture comes
on(which it should) but why does the screensaver qut automatically?

removable storage
hello,
when i put the memory card into my computer, it usually opens automatically,
or i go in through My Computer. now, it doesnt open and i dont have the
option through My computer (none of the removable storage drives are there...
they are usually a letter ie. "G".)

MP3/USB port problems

OE Freezes
Using OE6.0 with WinXP. Also using CA Antispam which worked great for
awhile. Now whenever I click on Approve an e-mail etc OE freezes. I have to
restart computer to get it to work again. When I click to shut down I always
get a closing of not responding site called DirectDBNotifyWNDProc. Any
ideas?????

File Permisssion
I load windowsXP on a partition of a disk that had no OS. However I an
unable to open file on the ither partitions. Error received Access denied. I
tried takin ownership as admin files and changing security attributes for
folder but files still locked.

Odd things in win.ini
In my win.ini folder I have the following:

[annie]
then a number of lines relating to video
They all have ticks nexts to them.
Should they be there in the win.ini folder?

Power Point Viewer 2007
I am running windows XP home edition with all the latest updates. For a word
processor, I am using MS Word 2002 with recommended fixes. I receive files

Get rid of an url visted?

I've tried deleting it in Internet Explorer 6 and with the program

double desktop icons
After re-installing the computer, I wanted to put back all desktop-icons and
folders from my backup (from D drive). However, no matter what I do or how I
do it, each desktop icon (folder, shortcut,..) comes double visible on the
screen.
In the folder of the desktop, the items have not been copied (there I see
the normal list - each item once), it is purely when viewing the desktop

Automatic Updates
XP Pro
I have Automatic Updates turned off. I have UNchecked the box that states
"Alert me if my computer might be at risk because of my automatic updates
settings."
Each day I first boot (and sometimes other bootings) I still get that
balloon telling me
my machine might be at risk. And that box I UNchecked is now CHECKED again.
How do I keep that balloon from popping up?

Multi Card Reader SD, CF, etc
I have a multi card reader that will take compact flash, SD, etc cards. If I
remove the card by clicking the remove hardware item all appears to go well.
However, if I reinsert the card, or even insert a different card (replace a
CF card with a SD card) I am unable to access the card.
My work around has been to reboot the computer to access the second card.

I cannot now use the paste function from information in one cell to another,
or paste in the search function dialog base, when copying from 1 table to
another, and from one database to another with my mouse, or menu bar. It
