HOST record for windows media server on the internet
Has anyone seen this problem before, where you can't watch your streaming
(via HTTP://IP-ADDRESS) video,
unless if you put a HOSTNAME with IP-ADDRESSS of your media server to
hosts file of the PC?
There is no problem playing same media using mms://IP-ADDRESSS method.

Latency tolerance between encoder and player or server
We need to stream a to a single viewer (WMP no server) through a VPN that
apparently introduces a 30ms delay. Is that too long for the player to
sustain a connection? How long is too long? Are there any encoder/player
adjustments that could be made to prevent any problems?
Thanks

other servers. snooping the session, when the client ( my player ) requests
the stream, the server, then makes the request to the encoder ( normal pull

Incomplete .wmv not streamable.
Hi,
I record tv shows programmatically with my windows media encoder.
Sometimes, I shutdown my recording program and there is consequently
and incomplete .wmv file.
I CAN open the file on the desktop by using "open". However, it seems
that the file is not indexed, since I cannot drag the pointer (fast
forward) the show.
The problem is that accessing it through the URL via mms. is

Why do I Need a record for windows media server?
I have setup windows media server in windows 2003, published video, and
publsihed HTML file using IIS.
Everything works in LAN using http://IP ADDRESS
if I configure a PUBLIC IP and put it outside of my LAN, can't watch from
different computer.
It sounds like Media Server need a HOST record on the network to be able to
play.
WHY?
I should be able to just HTTP://HOST-IP to watch the vide...

required bandwidth for WMS
Hi all,
I have a question regarding the required / estimated bandwidth for:
- fat clients (Windows XP)
- thin clients (using RDP or ICA)
using WMS streams.
I already found an article where you can calculate the required / estimated
bandwidth but no info regarding the use of TS Clients.
Does this calculated bandwidth also include Terminal Services Clients? I.e.
is the same bandwid...

continuous playlist-like streaming - doable?
Hi,
Say, I have 100 files encoded with the very same MBR parameters. I stream
those within a looped playlist. Then I want to ommit the process of
negotiating those parameters between the player and the server every time the
playlist item changes (describe, sdp, set param etc.). I know that the
implementation of WMS application protocols makes it impossible to eliminate.
But perhaps I...

RDC login complication
Running an application in the RDC on a remote server, logging into another
server on the system, changing the user login password...
Now, server running the application has been locking since the password
changed. Is there a way to close out the locking mechanism?
If nothing else works, can the user be removed from the server and then
re-added later on?
