Problem with manifest file
Hi, I'm getting my feet wet with Vista. Some of our users are running vista home basic. I've looked at some posts and come up with a manifest file to give our app Administrator privilages at run time. The app seems to work okay if we check the "run as administrator" checkbox in the exe's compatibility tab. But we don't want our users to have to do that, hence the desire to distribute th...

How to get simple folder encryption in Vista Home Premium?
In Windows XP you could get simple encryption of your files by compressing them into a zip folder and applying a password. You could carry these files around on a CD or a USB stick and be confident that you could decrypt them on pretty much any Windows system you visited. Microsoft has provided industrial-strength encryption for the high-end versions of Vista, but for some reason seem t...

User Account Control
When I boot up, the UAC box asks for permission to run my netgear wireless adapter. I say continue and everything is fine. It is somewhat annoying though. Can I have this program run without it asking for permission? Someone mentioned to right click the .exe file and click run as administrator might work, but I'm afraid I might make things even worse. Like I said everything works just a ...

What has changed with those rig...

Question about writing windows apps that write to network drives under vista/uac
Hi, I am new to vista and uac. We have an app that was written under vs2003 (windows). When the app runs normally it has a problem creating and writing to network directories. I've gotten around this to some extent by having the app run as administrator by default. Of course this means that I get the UAC prompt asking if I want to allow the app to run. I'm wondering if this is th...
