When browsing in IE7 I get a frequent popup from User Account Control. It asks for permission to install an IE add-on named {BDB57FF2-798B9-4205-9447-F5FE85F37312}. What the heck is this? Is there any way to install it permanently so as to eliminate the message? If I can't eliminate this message, I'm going to turn off UAC, though I'd rather not do that. ...

The first 2 have won awards, but I believe their are compatability issues with Kaspersky. Avast, of course, is free to the home user. All claim they are Vista compatible. Many thanks....

Does UAC Drop Privileges From Inbuilt Groups Other Than Administrators?
User Account Control appears to be dropping privileges from inbuilt groups other than just Administrators (except Authenticated Users)? I use a separate logical drive for data and use "standard" user accounts. The partition is NTFS-formatted. For convenience instead of adding each login name that should have access to the drive with modify privileges (and below) I just added the Power U...

Importing root certificates in Vista
Hi all. I was trying to import a root certificate into Vista. Windows XP doesn't present this behaviour. I've finally selected the store manually. Do you know why this fea...

Administrator - less secure?
I'm happy with UAC, and unlike most people don't object to Windows telling me when something potentially risky is about to happen. However, at the moment I've set my account up as an Administrator so I don't have to type the admin password into the UAC prompt each time. Are there any security risks doing this? I seem to think that even Administrator level accounts run in non-Administr...
