I have disabled everything and don't use a background scanner. Windows
Update Advisor says that my system is fully supported by Windows Vista
including Aero user experience. Maybe dmex is right. Most application
I have used today were faster than yesterday (only 50% CPU usage).
Only Terratec Home Cinema is still unusable but this could be a bug in

Vista performance issue
Hi,
I have just installed Windows Vista Business Edition and have noticed
some performance issues in comparison with Windows XP, where
everything works fine. CPU usage reaches 100% percent even if there is
almost no activity. When I start an application CPU usage of that
process is always 100%. When I scroll up and down in Notepad for
example CPU usage is at least 40% (only Notepad) and ...

Screen Saver Will Not Work
I have a new Toshiba Laptop with Vista Ultimate OS. My screen savers will
not work. I can access them in the Control Panel and even "preview" them.
However, after some time the screen saver will not kick in.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

other process is reponsible for this high CPU usage. Instead when I
start Notepad e.g. only Notepad has a CPU usage of 100%. But most of
the time is spend in kernel mode (marked red in performance graph),
which is quite unusual in my opinion and was not the case on Windows
XP. I thought it could be a driver problem, but CPU...

VISTA TOO SLOW
Why is Vistta so slow at simple tasks, like copying 1 folder to another, I
have a high spec machine dual core 4GB ram, but I point at a Lan folder and
the circle appears 1minute later , i right click it again , circle appears
wait......... ahh! click copy... go to place where want paste it and again
circle appears round and round..... right click .... wait....... paste.

CLock Update Error
Hello,
I am running Vista Home Premium. When I try to synchronize the clock using
any of the choices on the internet time tab I get an error message that
reads An error occurred while synchronizing time with ___________. I am
running McAfee Security center and I am not sure if that is contributing to

USB drive recognized with USB 1.1 but not with using USB 2 adapter
I recently purchased an external 300+ GB drive (a WDC WD32 00BB-00KEA0,
for what it's worth...). The hard drive isn't a problem when it's

Thumbnail in taskbar dissappeared
Hello, since a day or two I got this weird issue that when I hover over a
button of a window, the live preview won't show up.
The only thing I get is the text message that should be shown above the
thumbnail (wich is not there at all).
"Always display icons, never display tumbnails" is switched off, I can run
Aero and Flip 3D, I already cleared my icon catch, the "Display thumbnails"

easy transfer data link cable trouble
I bought an easy transfer cable from cables unlimited and it is not being
recognized by my windows xp system. Vista machine recognizes cable
immediately. The XP is a vaio laptop that has started having problems,

creating backup discs - problem
I am trying to create the backup discs using 720 mb CD-Rs. This pertains to
Windows Vista Business. When I try to create the discs I get a message
instructing me to insert a disc with over 1GB of memory into the DVD/CD-RW
drive. Why can I not create these discs using the standard CD-R size discs?

SFC -- Beginner Questions!
My new Vista system runs very fast and well. However, I ran SFC /verifyonly
and got a 17MB file in the CBS.log folder. Lots of stuff there that "looks"
really scary, but what do I know!
Question: Later, I ran sfc /scannow and the result showed that some system
files couldn't be repaired! I went to the cbs.log file and saw that the
file was the one dated from the first sfc /verifyonly...

Screen cannot power down
I'm not sure if this is the right section to ask this question, but here
goes. I just recently upgraded from XP to Vista HP. One of the problems I'm
having is that the screen will not power down (or shut off) like it used to
in XP. I checked my power maintenance settings and the screen is set to turn
off after 20 minutes. The screen saver turns on after 10 minutes, but 10
minutes lat...

Programs opening unexpectently
New Machine with Vista premium home. All is well EXCEPT I have a nuisance
happening. My calculator and my mail programs are opening up on their own
intermitently. I may be doing something on the computer or I may be away when
it happens. Have turned off screen saver, disabled checking mail
automatically etc. Has anyone else had this happen?

won't log off
When trying to shutdown or just log off so my wife can log on to her user,
