Windows Vista Complete Back up
The back up utility estimated that I would use between 21 and 37 DVD-R discs
to back up my 160gb hard drive. I am currently on disc 39! I am concerned
that if I continue, I will be just wasting more and more DVD-R discs!...

Vista Complete PC Restore
I have a dual-boot of Vista Business OEM and Windows XP Home. All is running
fine; can boot into either system. I bought Vista Business for the complete
image backup feature because it worked well in the beta versions of Vista.

Problems and solutions
I have 330 critical problems on my problems and solutions page. Every day I
check for solutions and to date one solution has been sent and it didn't
apply to me. According to the report only one problem is being researched.

Computer hangs on Explorer (due to Erfault.exe ?). Safe mode ?
When I start my computer with Vista Home Premium, I get an error message that
Explorer.exe can not be started. If I cancel this error message, its comes
back continuously. It seems that Erfault.exe has something to do with it ?
How to restart the computer in Safe mode ? Alt F8 is not working. So I can
not use my computer now....

Motherboard Monitoring Tool
Hello all. Maybe someone out there can help me with this: I have an Intel
D975XBX motherboard running Vista Ultimate 64bit edition. Is there a
motherboard monitoring tool that I can use to monitor my temps? Intel
doesn't have one that supports vista 64bit but is there another 3rd party
program out there that will work with this board?

Readyboost confusion
I would like to use readyboost on my system, but am wasting money left and
right (LOL). I bought a thumbdrive, but it was too small and too slow. So I
bought an Emprex 4GB USB 2.0 and it says it is high speed, but when I try to
go into readyboost for it, it tells me "this device does not have the
required performance characteristics for use in speeding up your system."

Merge Function in Word
When creating a letter with a BLOCK ADDRESS, the merge produced the following:
Name
Address
City on 3rd line
State with comma and Zip on 4th line
To teach my students, I now need to have them insert each variable field for
the address separately.

Refresh rate locked at 60 hz
I just purchased a new gateway laptop with Vista, and I'm hating the
fact that Vista locks down the Refresh Rate to only 60 hz. I've tried
updating drivers for the ATI video card, and while the instructions of
the display device states it should allow for changes in the Refresh
Rate, there are none. Even the force options are not available. I've

Memory Dump
When I boot up, I get this error "STOP: c0000218
\systemroot\system32\config\software Registry cannot load hive(file) or its
log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable. Beginning dump
of physical memory to disk". When its done it reboots and does it again.

Vista Full System Restore fails...
I'm running Vista Ult. I did a clean install to a new system.
I have 2 300GB SATA's set up in a striped array (600GB). Before Vista
installation, I partitioned the 600 GB into "drives" C: (300GB) and D:
(300GB) [for speed I thought :)]. I installed Vista to the C:, and all my
data (docs etc) to D:. I did a full system backup to a third HD in my
system.

All I want to do is backup my files!!!
How do I do a weekly backup, then incremental backups without filling my
harddrive!!!
1. Can I get the complete backup to overwrite the previous?
2. My incremental backups are not any smaller.

Taskbar problems.
I have no idea what causes this to happen but every now and then the taskbar
on my machine messes up. The start menu, quicklaunch bar and any windows I
have open are shifted to the extreme left side. But only the -image- of them
is shifted. If I manage to click in the right place I still open the correct
window, I.E., where the window was located before they got displaced. I

Lan connection drops during activity

Setting base priority persistently or shortcut
I'm running Vista Business, core duo 1.8, 1GB RAM on a Dell notebook.
I am often running VMWare, which spawns several other processes. I want them
all to run a HIGH base priority.
Some of the processes are automatically kicked off with High priority now,
but many of them start as "normal."
Is there any way to set up specific programs to run at elevated priority?

ReadyBoost/move page file to H.D.
Using xp, I had read a tip to move the paging file to its own hard drive. I
bought a 10 gig drive but never got around to it. I am itchin to try but I
can not find any options with ReadyBoost or moving the page file. Am I
scratchin up a dead end or is something possible my minuscule brain cells
have not thought of.

Hardrive allways starts shortly after the screensaver - very annoy
Hi,
i have a very annoying problem with Vista and that is: whenever the
screensaver starts my harddrive suddenly gets active and only stops if i
return to the desktop.
I have a normally silent system so this harddrive activity is not wanted at

Slow Performance, What Could/Should I Do?
When I first got Vista, everything worked perfect. But now, I can't even
watch a streaming video from the internet. I know it's not my internet
because my other Windows XP computer plays the videos just fine. (I also
can't play online games because I get booted all the time.)

Windows won't allow more windows
After opening several windows in IE 7, after a while a window will open but
will not load. If I close a previous window, sometimes the new window will
work on a second try, but the problem repeats until I can open no windows at

Screen Flickering
My screen has been flickering ever since I installed Vista in Feb 07. Have
searched for solutions to no avail. The flickering used to temporarily stop
