How do you fix hash mismatches?
I just ran the System File Checker and it found hash
mismatch's on a bunch of timedate.cpl.mui files. how do I fix this?
I can't open the date and time change window through the control panel and i
think this might be why....

TCP autotuning
I understand Vista "tweaks" it's own connection, but why does it do it so
badly? If I run test downloads allowing Vista to self tune it rarely gets
even close to a tenth of my connection, despite using a download manager to
maximize speeds.
I found out how to turn off auto tuning, and also changed a file to allow
more connections, things are much better now, but I still need to adjust ...

Desktop icons are moving on me in "switch users"
I have two users on my new HP "notebook" w/vista. Both have (groups of)
Icons placed in different areas of the desktop. But when I switch
users, all the icons get pushed to the left side. And when I switch
back the other "user" has the same thing happen and I have to sort them
all out again. This doesn't seem to happen in "shutdown", just switching
users.

Scan Disk does not run on startup
I’m trying to use Vista’s Backup and Restore Center to backup my files on an
external hard drive (SmartDisk, Firelite). When I select the disks that I
want to backup in the Backup and Restore Center program, an error message
pops up which tells me “The Disk C: has errors.†I click the link to check
the disk for errors, and schedule a Check disk for the next time Windows
starts ...

How do I create a boot up CD in Vista.
I need to upgrade the BIOS on my DELL and the suggestion is to do it from a

Sluggish Start Menu actions
Can anybody tell me why the actions in the Start Menu are so sluggish,
and how to fix it? When I click on Start > All Programs and I hover the
mouse on the items there, it takes a while to respond with the
highlight. When the item finally highlights, it takes another bit of
time to expand and show the contents of folders. Is there a fix for

Low-Level Hum
To All Cognoscenti, Greetings!
My 4.1 Logitech speaker system emits a low-level hum when connected to my
brand-new Acer Aspire ASE380 with a SoundBlaster card in it running Vista
Ultimate. The problem didn't exist under Windows XP in my older computer,
using the same SoundBlaster card. What could be the cause of this?

Vista Photo Gallery problem
Hello everyone!
This is my first post so bear with me.I have one problem that has been
annoying me for sometime now and can't seem to find a solution.The problem
lies with Vista Photo gallery.When I upload Photos from my digital Camera to
a selected folder,you can view pictures in thumbsize but when click to view
in full screen..nothing happens.It says 'This picture can't be

Replacing failing main drive
I am getting a warning of imminent failure from my primary drive. I was
getting ready to do the recommended backup, when I noticed the message that
system and program files would _not_ be backed up. How can I create a backup
that will avoid my having to reinstall all my software?...

WindowsBackup & "sdclt.exe /CHECKFULL"?
Running the Task Scheduler as Administrator, and looking under Task
Scheduler>Task Scheduler Library>Microsoft>Windows>WindowsBackup, I see a
task called "CheckFull" and its description stating, "This scheduled task
checks if a full backup should be run."
I'd like to know how it determines when a new full backup should be run.

Boot up or rrecoverf from hibernate
When my Compaq with Vista Home Premimum boots up or recovers from hibernation
I get a small screen stating that the HP task management component has
stopped working. I click the close program option in the box and everything
goes along just fine. What is the HP task management and where do I find out
how to disable the system from looking for it?

Losing connection with phone line.
In March of the this year I purchased a HP a1730n Pavillion computer with
Windows Vista Premium and it has been great. In my area of the country (NE
Ohio) we have Time Warner Cable. I have Cable,Roadrunner for the computer and

Apps continously show "Not Responding"
My performance with Vista has gone down the tubes. Many of my programs
including "Office 2007" show Not Responding and the program greys out. It
eventily comes back up but this has to be a sign of something wrong. I have
2 gig of ram and the computer runs Vista fine (well it did at first). I

Vista crashes (blue screen) after a few minutes while playing any
I had XP SP2 and all my games worked fine, without any crashes. After I got
Vista, any 3d game I have will crash in 5-15 minutes of playing, every time.
I wrote down the "technical information" on the blue screen, it read: "Stop

Vista randomly losing internet connectivity

Network Monitoring - updated tool
A very good network monitoring tool - NetMeter - has been updated to work
with Vista. It keeps daily, weekly and monthly download/upload logs. It also
shows cumulative download/upload data from the install date of NetMeter.

MediaCenter faulty in Vista Ultimate.
I know, it's not that important, but if it is included it better should
work.
And it isn't.... If a DVD or online source is paused, mediacenter
'thinks' it stopped responding and then it tries a restart of
mediacenter. It's annoying. It sometimes gets stuck or hung as well when
browsing through a link mediacenter imported.
And, how to add online media by hand?

windows alt+tab flipping lockup
has anyone had this problem? i will leave my computer with a few windows
open, walk away....10 minutes later it has a box in the middle as if i
pressed alt + tab that is flipping over the windows rapidly....the only way
out is to press the power button to force a shutdown....i don't know why it

Screen Freezes
Although I can see all the programs I am using on the taskbar, I am unable to
restore any of them, i.e. I am just presented with a black screen and the
blue circle. I have looked at the Task Manager which tells me that
everything is 'Running' so why wont they re-appear on the screen.
