PerfectDisk offline defrag and vista
Hi all,
I am unable at this point to stay with vista. I have some 3rd party
programs that Vista will not let run properly. If anyone has any ideas
as to how to rectify these problems, please write.
PerfectDisk (Raxco) - UAC will not let the utility do proper offline
defrag. Elevated right required. No pass on in program setup.

Corel X3 continually freezes
I have had plenty of issues with Vista and all are sorted except Corel X3. It
continually freezes and requires a restart even when working with small files.
There doesn't seem to be any specific trigger. You can work away for hours
with no problems and other times continual freezes even after restart.
Running Vista 32bit on a Duo core 2.13, 3mb ram, 512kb video card. All

Disk Usage in Windows Vista Backup
I am running Vista Home Premium. I have Windows Backup set to create nightly
incremental backups to a second hard drive. When I first ran it in early
April, it created a full backup. Since then, it has been adding up to
several hundred megabytes each day. By now, my second hard drive is
completely filled up. I could get a larger hard drive, but it seems that the
backup set is just g...

Explorer.EXE and CPU
I have an emachines W3263 with Windows Vista. I have had it for about a
month. There have been several instances where it was running hard. I went
to Task Manager which show my Explorer.EXE is running at about 50% CPU. No
other process runs any where near that. Is this normal or have I found the
cause of being warned about CPU usage?
I'm still learning the ins and outs so please...

Keyboard Not Working with Yahoo Mail
I have a brand new Sony Vaio laptop with Vista. Keyboard works fine with
Word, Excel, etc., but on Yahoo Mail it takes multiple stabs at keys to get
a letter to type. Have heard of numerous cases of this, but no answer.
Does anyone know of a solution?
Thanks!

Vista Disk Thrashing
What is going on w/Vista? I am running Vista Ultimate on a Xeon system w/4G
of RAM, and I keep experiencing these annoying unresponsive periods now and
then--quite randomly as far as I can tell--characterized by heavy HDD
thrashing (HDD LED on). They sometimes last 20 seconds.
A close description of this issue (or something closely related) can be
found here:

Power Scheme Question
I have made a copy of the "Power saver" power scheme and called it "Mike's
Power Saver" so that I can make significant changes without messing up the
built-in scheme. When the "Mike Power Saver" scheme is on battery, my
windows and start menu are not transparent. What setting do I need to change
to make this not happen? I am pretty sure that I have to use the command
line utility powercf...

gdiplus crashing (Explorer, Photoshop, Start++, etc)
No idea why this started happening (Not really anything has been installed or
changed in the last couple of days) but quite a few things are crashing, for
example, explorer.exe crashes when opening images (Using the 'Preview' thing)
or opening the Games window, Defender simply won't start, start++ won't
start, Nvidia control panel crashes, etc.
Here is an example of Defender crashing:

System Freezes - "iastor error"
I am having serious stability issues with my Dell XPS 410 running Vista Home
premium. Every 5 minutes or so my computer will hang/freeze for anywhere
from 30 seconds to 3 minutes for no apparent reason. It doesn't matter what
I am doing from playing games to typing email (it froze while writing this).
When looking in the event viewer, the following error persists each time I

My computer stayes on 24/7, yet each morning I see a yellow check mark in the

turned off and will not protect my system. Why is it turning itself off, and
how do I get it to stay on all the time?...

Sleep Mode
I would just appreciate if you all came out with some way to fix this little
problem: when the computer is put down to sleep, it turns itself back on in
less than a minute, whenever the lid is closed the same thing happens--as a
result, my computer either has to be completely shut down or it is running
all of the time, which is shortening the life of my computer. The real
suggestion here...

may be more). The desktop reverts to Vista Basic 2D. Restarting after a
