Website hyperlinks now open in a small window
I moderate a help forum where I have to click frequently on hyperlinks to
refer to other sections. Until today I thought that I had Vista well
trained as they always opened full page like IE7 does when I first go on the
internet.. With my eyesight I need this to happen.
Suddenly they all open at the default size - whatever that is - quarter
page..? How can I persuade them to always...

Compression & Performance
Any thoughts on what kind of overall performance hit I will take (if any)
were I to make my 80GB C:\ drive compressed via NTFS?
Factors - disk seek time, expansion/compression time, cpu overhead, RAM
usage, fragmentation, etc?

system restore stopped working
error states that shadow copy failure system restore won't start, just
produces a failure message. anyone know what files to reinstall? happened
before trying to install new vista updates. deleting updates doesn't help.
was also trying to go online with halo 2, just to see if it works. didn't.

Vista ultimate on a domain with Roaming profiles
OK, I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise server running AD and when I try to log
onto this domain with a Windows Vista Ultimate laptop it A)takes FOREVER to
boot and B)tells me that it couldn't find my profile and will use a

Intel Microcode Reliability Patch
Hi,
Anyone have any information on the Reliability Patch for new Intel
Processors. There is no info givin on the page to download the patch.
Apparantly its from intel and changes the processor microcode. But i dont
want to patch this unless i know what it is. If it will speed up the system
and make it more stable im for it. If it slows down the processor or has
different stepping rates ...

How to delete listing for non-existent backup
[cross posted performance-maintenance and general NG's]
Since I made the last Complete PC Backup, I've had to reformat the external
drive on which it was saved. Now, when I open Backup Status and
Configuration and select Complete PC Backup, that backup is still listed
even though it's not there:
Last backup was successful
Last successful backup 4/28/2007

Image Corruption
HI,
I am having the strangest problem. When I view certain images on a
SBS 2003 Network Share with my system running Vista they seem
corrupted but if I go to another computer in the office running XP,
the image appears fine. If I was to place that image into a
powerpoint from the vista machine, then the image in powerpoint will
look corrputed to all in the office, both on XP and Vista. ...

Vista 32 or 64 bit?
I'm running Vistax32 and it works fine. I've got a Core2Duo CPU, 2GB
RAM and 256MB Nvidia. No problem finding all the drivers for my
hardware and software. I'm scratching my head trying to find any
reason why a home user should even consider switching to the 64bit
version? What say you guys?

delete xp in dual boot
hi,
i have vista and xp set up on a dual boot. i would like to delete the xp
partition and run only vista home premium. have only found one suggestion
on net.
problem is no one claims to have sucessifully done it. i do not want to

Can't set up new user
There are 2 users on my system, me and my wife.
When wife tries to switch to her user it goes through the motions and ends
up just showing a blue screen,with the cursor arrow. The cursor moves but has
no function at all.
When I tried to add a new user it went through all that it has to and tole
me it was going to set up the desk top. Screen turned blue and the rest is
stated above.

Windows updates error #80070008B
Just installed Windows Vista Home Premium. Had to register the key by
calling Microsoft. My problem is that I cannot get any updates to install.
All of the updates from the very first update has failed. I have tried
downloading them myself but they still fail. I know that there was a way to

How do I free up Hard Disk Space ?
Hi,
I am new to windows Vista, my machine constitute around 220Gb of space. It
says on My Computer that disk space available is just 150Gb meaning I have
70Gb of space used. I checked all folders and it just constitutes around
30Gb, can anyone help me understand this?
Or better yet, help me to free around 30Gb more from my disk space used? I
tried searching for temp files but I don't...

Hello, I use vista ultimate x64 on this pc:
mb intel d955xbk, cpu p4 3.60 ghz, ram 4 gb, vga geforce 6800 ultra pci-e.
After few min, vista slow down and the screen have a serious refresh
problem, it's very very hard to use the system in these conditions.
I don't have any overclock or application for overclock.
I must restart the system and I can use it for other few mins...

I am playing a game called, Black & White, which played fine on XP.
Now I am on Vista home premium the game keeps on crashing, giving me a

Memory Throttling?
Does Vista throttle memory usage? I have a new machine with Vista
pre-installed, and it runs disk-bound all the time. 2GB ram and 5400 rpm
drive seems like a huge memory mismatch - don't know why they still put 5400
rpm drives in. Maybe my cache is too small? The system seems to only use
1GB, so wondering why it's not taking advantage of the other 1GB???...

Task Scheduler question (System Restore)
Hi,
I accidentally (doh!) deleted the SystemRestore Tasks in Task Scheduler
(Vista).
I'm recreating them, but what arguments (if any) are passed on to rstrui.exe
when it's invoked as an action?
Is rstrui.exe the right program to invoke?
I've looked around on the web but can't find an answer.
