Slow performance in IE on Vista
Why is IE so darn slow when it comes to connecting to web sites, and
downloading. Currently we have a AMD 64-bit processor running at about 2
gig, and 1 gig of memory so that shouldn't be the problem.
What can I do to improve the IE performance? And switching to Mozilla isn't
the best way to go right now.... in case anyone is going to suggest
that..... :)

Error code 643
I have received this error code when trying to install Security Update for
Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service pack 1 (KB929729) on a Vista
Home premium machine, does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Complete PC Backup
I have been using Complete PC Backup since I upgraded to Vista Ultimate. The
program apparently stores some files on the main computer and an image file
and other files on the external backup drive.
What happens if the backup drive fails first? Will the program
automatically create a complete and restorable image on a new backup drive,
or will it be misled by the files remaining on th...

DPCs causing 100% processor usage at random times
This has just started happening today, nothing new has been added to my
system and I havent installed ANY new software for a few weeks (except
Windows updates of course).
At random intervals, for periods lasting up to 15mins a process called DPCs
(as shown in Process Explorer) will use 100% of core processing time.

Hi, I'd appreciate some help. :-)
HP Pavillion, AMD Athlon XP 2400+ processor, 2GB RAM, Vista Home Premium.
The PC is three or four years old.
When I got Vista, I only had 512MB of memory but I was able to run Vista

Blue Screen constantly, right after installation
I recently installed Vista on a computer other than this one, and from the
finish of inistallation, it goes to the blue screen and restarts every single
time. I tried repairing but it says that it cannot repair the computer
automatically. I would either A) Like to fix it, or B) Forget it an get XP

Memory usage over 90%
Recently I noticed that the memory monitor always shows more than 90% of
memory are used. My system has 1.5G memory installed. The running
applications include a firefox browser window, a word file, an eclipse
editor, thunderbird, and live messanger. How come 90% are used? I check the
processes in task manager. The total used memory doesn't add up to 90% of
1.5G. What's wrong with my vis...

Blue Screen way too often
I have seen many posts on the BSOD but I haven't seen any reference to the
same error messages I'm getting. To preface I have a Gateway laptop
preloaded with Vista Home Premium AMD Turion 64 X 2 Mobile Tech, 512KB X 2 L2

Application Data
Hello
i've vista ultimate.
i can not find Application Data folder under my name in Users folder.
Usually the path is C:\Users\my name\Application Data\---- (internet
download program)\Documents\download folder created by internet download
program.
I also can not find any downloaded files in Documents. Any suggestions?

Windows Live Messenger - Window Stairs
Does anyone notice that on Windows Live Messenger when you open a few contact
windows, they open in stairs of windows so the windows don't open in the same
place each time? I find it very annoying because sometimes the windows open
at top left corner of screen or at bottom right or somewhere in between. I
prefer them to be all in the same place.

odd behavior, constantly refreshing desktop icons
I have a new laptop that came with Vista Ultimate pre-installed. I am

HELP!! everything works in any media player i've downloaded and tried
EXCEPT DVD movies. i can play dvd rom games, play cd's, watch the
pre-installed videos that come with the players.......just not actual dvd
movies. i'll pop one in and maybe the submenus will appear, but then it
blue screens with a message of "a thread tried to release a resource it did
not own". i have the dvd regions ...

missing file muweb.dll
Hi,
I had to reload VISTA Ultimate and now I get the message
\system32\muweb.dll is missing after clicking on the Microsoft Update button.
It should have been on the OS CD?
How can I get it and what else might be missing? Special precautions for
inserting/activating it? Please be specific.

solution to KB 935806
After hours of research and troubleshooting I decided to create a 2nd user
account with admin rights, log off, log in with that account, download the
file:

Updates refuse to install
On the 10th of July, I was notified that there were 6 updates to be
installed, ever since then it says updates were installed successfully,
prompts me to restart which I do, upon reboot the welcome screen says
configuring updates, after login it says updates were not able to be
installed???

Restore and Backup
The problem is: When I make a change to my system i.e. new driver, etc I
would like to create a system restore point just in case of a malfunction.
When I try to create a restore point I get this message on my Systems
Property Window under the tab system protection Automatic Restore Point
"Configuration is disabled by group policy" and "Restore Point creation
disabled by group policy....

I used the windows complete system backup to a internal hard drive. I had a
ATA raid and I wanted to go back to a single hard drive. When I ran the

CPU usage with iexplorer.exe
Hi all,
I have an AMD Sempron 3500+ with 1512 RAM. The CPU usage is really
concerning me. Every 10 seconds, it goes up to 100% and then a few seconds
later it drops back to around 20%. It is nearly always iexplorer.exe which is
using the most processing power, but I am not even using the internet for
highly demanding tasks.

Keyboard won't reset to US setting...
I have looked on this discussion board.. Tried Webpages.. tried all the
suggestionsand but I cannot fix keyboard setting. When installing WinXp Pro
OS I put keyboard setting as UK..and now my keyboard is jumbled or not
there..ie the pound sign.. quotation marks are swapped..HELP

I lost the two icons in the taskbas for Vista - the 3D flip and desktop.
