Downloads folder icon gone to normal
How can I get my special Vista downloads folder icon back - it's just a
normal folder icon now?

Vista And Ubuntu
Hi All
Got a question , On my XP home machine I have been playin with ubuntu and
XP.
Ubuntu can see my XP drive but XP can't see the Ubuntu drive.
They are both on different hard drives. No duel boot.
Was wondering if Vista would have this problem to.
Vista and XP both are NTFS file system.
I just thought I would try Ubuntu , I know nothing about Lenoux.

I accidentally uninstalled Windows Sidebar from my Vista Home Premium (32bit)
system....any ideas of how to add it again?

Deleting tags from photos in Media Center
I deleted all the tags from some photos using Windows Photo Gallery and
deleted the tags themselves, but all those tags still show up in Media Center
still associated with those photos. How can I delete them? Thanks.

Sync Center
I have Vista Business and am trying to get Sync Center to partner with my HP
PDA. Vista help tells me to open the Sync Center and then click Sync ALL on
the tool bar. Unfortunately there is no Sync ALL and no toolbar when I open
Sync Center. What to I do now.

display blank on restart/boot up
Hi , sometimes when i restart my laptop
(toshiba sat pro A100 Dual core 1.83ghz with
ATI mobility X1400 graphics and 1gb of Ram)
the screen does not enable ,remains black.
I believe everything boots correctly as after a short

AMDx2-6000 & VIsta Ultimate
I have a MSI K9N Diamond motherboard & AMDx2-6000 Processor.
Installed vista and Vista saw one processor in Hardware manager...Went to
MSI site and could not find bios update. Installed their autoupdate program
and it located a bios update..Installed update and Motherboard Bios &
Hardware manager {in vista}shows 2 processors now...
BUT nothing else shows 2 processors.. Not device manag...

maximized windows going behind Gadgets sidebar
I use to have this preference set but somehow it was removed and I forgot how
to do it originally. Where do you set the preference to stop maximized
windows from going behind the Gadgets' Sidebar? When I hit "maximize" on a
window I want the window to expand as far it can without the Gadgets' Sidebar
covering part of it....

Vista and 16 bit application
I am migrating from W2k to Vista a 16 bits application named Juritech. When I

Vista: How do I get the "safe to remove hardware" message in a bub
On my Windows XP PC, when I remove my thumb drive, the message comes up in a
bubble, requiring no action. In Vista, it comes up in a dialog box with an
"OK" button that requires clicking or hitting Enter.
How do I get it in a bubble in Vista??

Vista Windows Update error "Host process for windows services..."
This morning a bubble appeared on my system tray telling me I had 9
new updates for Windows Vista. So I chose to start the Update, but it
stopped almost as quickly as it began. Suddenly, Windows Explorer
slowed. Clicking on the little "+" box next to the folder title
results in the blue "thinking circle" and an hour glass over the
folder icon.
I looked at the update log, but no updates ...

Turn off the Hover Highlight
OK you open a folder and you move your mouse pointer over a file and
the selection turns blue. You have not click on it yet your just
hovering your mouse over it and its blue.
The feature is nice until you want to cut and paste a bunch of folders
or files. You cut them from one directory and them open the next
window where your going to past them and the folder your mouse is over
turns...

Sick of the Live File System as default
(Ahead of time, no, I'm not getting the "automatically formats as Live
File System when I put in a disc" error, this is just frustration with
the defaults.)
I've ruined a number of perfectly good DVD+Rs (at least they're cheap
for the storage capacity!) while trying to burn off media on my
computer, all because when I select the files and hit Burn, Vista
automatically tries to burn to the Live...

Vista Ultimate: Backup to external harddrive drive fails
Hello, I have installed Vista Ultimate on a single drive desktop and attempt
to backup the PC to an extermal harddrive connected via USB. At the very end
of the backup procedure after the files have been written to the external

Messages
Since I installed Vista, I am unable to receive messages sent by people
running XP using the old Net Send. Also, they do not receive messages I
send with Msg. Vista machines work fine between them and the XP machines
work fine between them. Just not Vista-XP or XP-Vista.

networking problems...
This suddenly happened, with no changes whatsoever on any machine on my
local area network (this machine is running Vista Ultimate, my son is
running Vista Home Premium, my wife is running XP Media).

Digital Camera Support in Vista?
I've been reading much of what is discussed in this NG and wanted to throw

Is there any chance that SP1 for Vista will contain better support for

Memory Usage
I am comparing 2 laptops both running Vista Home Premium.
One is a Dell with something like 1.7 GHz Dual Intel processor and 1+ G
RAM. The other is an Acer with a 1 GHz AMD and 1 G RAM. So the Acer is has
less processor speed and RAM than the Dell. Both are new. The only major
