Updating DirectX (webinstaller)
Hi there,
I don't know if it's a temporary problem from Microsoft servers, but I've
tried many times to update my DirectX (with the newest webinstaller from
Microsoft) and I get always a error message: The files could not be
downloaded. Try again later or test if your network connection is correct.
Is someone having the same problem? Solutions?

Vista 32 and ram?
I have 2 gigs of DDR2 in my PC now. I have read that not only does Vista 32
not see 4 gigs it even causes trouble in some set-ups (for the moment at
least).
I am thinking of adding another gig of ram as 2 X 512. What are the pros
and cons of this (other than just cost, which is minimal)?

Explorer "Delete" toolbar icon
I see that the delete icon has been removed from the toolbar for windows
explorer. Several questions:
1. how can I get it back?
2. why was it removed? (what user requirements were gathered?)
3. a string of questions was asked (see "Toolbar Icons") regarding this
same question, but none of them were answered by a Microsoft MVP person (or
similar). Why is that?...

Sound Cards
I still have NOT been able to get good sound with the system I have Vista
installed on. I know it is an old system and other than sound Vista runs
very well. Drivers <or updates> are no long available for the sound card I
have and the on-board sound is the older AC-97 which I understand Vista does
support either.

Volume Panel Error on Start Up
Whenever i start up Vista its loads to the desktop screen where i am greeted
by a small message window "Volume Panel" and an Exclamation Mark in a yellow
triangle, with no further information just an ok button
Does any one know where or what this message relates to??????...

Dual boot Vista with XP Pro?
A mate of mine bought Windows Vista (not sure which flavour) but doesn't
like it and has gone back to XP Pro. He's offered to sell it to me if I want
it but I don't know if I do. My own computer is running XP Pro on a SATA II

Nvidia nForce Network Controller quirkiness on Vista Home Premium...
On Windows Vista Home Premium on booting up my PC it is nearly always
telling me that I am not connected to any networks, despite there being
a healthy, working ethernet cable connected.

Document folder not showing names in icon views
In my document folder:
If I use "Small Icons", "Medium Icons", "Large Icons" or "Extra Large Icons"
there are no names under the icons for files and directories. I can see the
names if I use "Tiles", "Details" or "List". Strange... Does anybody know of
a fix to this?

Important
OK these are more than just features and they should be included in the first
version of vista and i don't know why they were removed from XP in the first
place it's like microsoft trying to screw with their own product , first of
all the internet connection acitivity doesn't work even when you turn it on ,
second you can't make a shortcut for your connection and put it to the

Solution for slow file copying?
4.0 MB/S copying files from PC to a USB Thumbdrive in XP
1.5 MB/S copying files from PC to USB Thumbdrive in Vista. Definitely

freezing
When playing a game or surfing the web or downloading vista business locks up
or freezes. You cannot use alt ctrl or del. The only thing is to reset the
pc.

Explorer not displaying MP3 art work
I've recently noticed that the detail section in Explorer does not always
display art work against song. If I select an album maybe 20% have the
correct picture and the rest have the standard MP3 picture. WMP11 has all
of the pictures correct and the media information has been updated.
Any ideas?

Vista & Nvidia Smartdimmer problem
My new Dell Latitude D620 comes equipped with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M
When I plug it it works fine but when I try to work on my battery power then

Deleted shortcut but it's still on desktop?
I changed my FireFox icon to one I found online, and then created another
shortcut to it on the destkop. I deleted the new shortcut, and then deleted
it in the recycle bin. But it still shows on the desktop. Any suggestions on

Sync 2 Smartphones to one profile
I want to sync two smartphones (AT&T 8525) to the same profile, so that my
wife and I can see the same contacts and calendar. When I connected/sync
both before, it created doubles within the calendar however, the contacts

disable UAC for "show processes for all users"
Hi, something l would like to do is disable UAC (user account control)
for a subset of options in Vista. For instance, I'm always selecting
"Show processes for all users" on the Windows Task Manager, so it's
annoying for me to have it enabled here. However, UAC is useful enough
of a safety net that I wouldn't want to completely disable it. (It has
saved me a couple times already from malware)...

poor disk performance with vista and dell xps gen 4 raid 0
Hi! I have a Dell xps gen 4 3.46 ghz 3 gig memory Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX
raid 0 made of two 250gig drives.
I've upgraded from XP to Vista Ultimate. I have defraged, chkdsk, and made
sure all drivers were updated. The Windows experience index shows 2.5 because
of the primary drive (disk data transfer rate).
