Sizing all columns.
Hi again,
I was also wondering if anyone knew of a way to set your column widths in
Windows Explorer in Vista so that they stay the way you set them? i.e. "Size
all columns to fit" & when you go back to Explorer the columns are the same
width.

Unable to extend Laptop display to LCD monitor
Hi,
I have HP Pavilion with Vista Home Premium on it. Up until couple of days
back I was able to plug in a external LCD monitor and extend my display to
the LCD monitor.
Suddenly, this stopped working and it's driving me crazy:-(

Question about Launching shell command from Credential Provider
We need to launch our applicatoin from the
IConnectableCredentialProviderCredential::Connect().
I have following questions:
1. In the FAQ of Microsoft's "Sample Credential Providers Overview",
Microsoft says, "USER applications may not run on the Winlogon
Desktop". But I launched our application successfully. Can somebody

system file currupt
i am not an IT guy.
i have new laptop it has vista business edition.
it says one of the system file is corrupt.. what i realised.. its probably
windows movie maker... Dont know exatly.
i am unable to run disc check for error........
it give following message...

Do you get disk with Vista? if buy new system?
Bought new computre system from a computre shop and they claim vista does not
come whith a cd/dvd if buy new computre is that true??
I only have a book but never given a Cd/Dvd of windows and computre guy
claims dont get one if buy new computres
It is defintly vista on it.

dvd from xp to vista?
when using either InCd or Nero (data)DVD on XP to Vista, Vista sees it but
doesn't function properly. Is there some specific format when writing the
DVD in XP that will make it compatible with Vista?...

Impossible Create PDFs. I HATE VISTA
I have installed Macromedia Freehand MX 11.02. If you don't switch off your
computer you can go to print, select PDF file (I have ACROBAT PRO) and print
the document in a regular PDF.
If you switch off, go home, have lunch and come back to work, when you start
Vista again and run Freehand you loose your "read and write permissions" !
You need to uninstall FH, remove all details in the R...

SP1 for Vista!!
According to a Digg article (e.g., I have no proof either way), Vista SP1,
due out in November, should be out within 2 weeks, supposedly.
Anyone have any REAL info on this rumour?

Time Synchronization problem
I've tried to synchronize with all 5 time servers that were installed
with Vista, but after about a 20 second delay I get the message:
"An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with . . ."
This message doesn't tell me a lot, can anyone help?

Unzipping
Incredible, unzipping 1.22Gb to a folder on the desktop, started out at
something like 8 hours to finish, now it's down to 1 hour 30 minutes at the
incredible speed of, wait for it. . . . . . . 12.8 KB/sec. And it's running
both my cores at about 50-60%.
You know, I really like Vista and am sticking with it, but this has to be
addressed. Oh, must have hit a sticky patch, now it's down to 8....

Windows Calendar
I am finding Windows Calendar (Vista OS) to be very challenging. Two
questions: 1. When I try to print a day view of my calendar for each
individual day of the week, the current day prints for each day of the week

offline files indicator and shortcut indicator
Hi!
If the offline files feature is enabled in Windows XP, Windows Explorer
puts a two-blue-arrows mark on icons of the files that are available
offline. The mark is placed in the left bottom corner of the icon.
(The two-blue-arrows overlay is contained in
"%SystemRoot%\system32\cscui.dll".)

Bootsect.bak
To restore the Vista MBR after installing an pre-Vista Windows one needs to
run Bootsect.exe which is said to reside on Vista installation DVD.
My HP Pavilion computer arrived with Vista preinstalled with no DVD but with
a partition on HD with some recovery files on it. No Bootsect.exe among
them.
At the same time there is a file called Bootsect.bak ( 8 K in size) in the
root of C drive...

Changing folder attributes
I have a certain folder that is somehow set to "read only".
I used the "cmd" window to change the attributes with the
command "attrib -r" (this is according to the instructions
on this page)

Can't get my Creative Zen Micro to connect
This seems to be a common problem...
I recently upgraded from a Windows 2000 pc to a Vista 32-bit pc. My Zen
Micro worked for my old computer, but Vista cannot find the driver to
recognize the device. It sees the Zen Micro in the Device Manager (see

error loading msworks 8.5 on Vista
Is it just me or has anyone had problems loading MSWorks 8.5 onto a laptop
running Vista premium? - gets so far then says cannot install (don't have
full wording/message details at the moment) then it 'rolls back'
installation and that's it. Tried load it twice and it does the same thing.

print spooler service problem
The print spooler service cause instability on my Vista machine. When
the service is running, the Windows Sidebar doesn't work (no gadget show
up and can't add any). When I try to launch Adobe Reader/Acrobat,

Vista Defragment Tool
I have been using Vista since the Beta version and extremely happy, one
question which I've been meaning to ask for a long time is regarding the
Disk Defragmentation tool.
When I go to defrag, it doesn't give the defrag details 'or' am I missing an
option whereas in XP you can view the progress, all I see is a message with

installing w2k alongside Vista
I have a brand new HP computer with Windows Vista pre-installed.
I need also w2k on the same mashine.
I made a peimary partition using Vista built in Desk Manager. Now I have
booted from w2k cd.

Vista - antivirus
My daughter got a laptop with windows vista. it had mcafee on it and I took
it off. I put AVG on it and her computer is locking up. I don't know if
this is the AVG or not.
Can anyone recommend a good antivirus? I also put on spybot and adaware.
