Greyed out Volume and Network icon option.
On a Dell Inspiron E1705/9400 running Vista Ultimate. Out of the blue one
day, my volume icon disappeared. The checkbox for enabling the volume icon is
greyed out in Taskbar and Start Menu Properties, too. Now my network icon has
disappeared, and its icon is greyed out in Properties as well. Any ideas?

System Restore only saves the last copy.
Windows Vista Ultimate (32) on an HP Pavilon. I created many system restore
points but when I try to restore it only shows the last version.
I go to:
start, control panel, Backup and Restore Center. I click on "Repair Windows
using System Restore", then "choose a different restore point", then "next".
It only shows the last restore point.

How can i back up the whole operating system?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but... what if say, my computer
crashes or the hard drive goes bad? How do i reinstall all of my
software that came with my computer, including Windows Vista itself?
I'm using Vista Home Premium Edition.

System Restore Points ? ?
The problem is: When I make a change to my system i.e. new driver, etc I
would like to create a system restore point just in case of a malfunction.
When I try to create a restore point I get this message on my Systems

W32TIME service is fubar - HELP!
I was experimenting on getting the time to synchronize properly with
my new Dell Vista PC. During my experiments, I set the W32TIME
service, "Log On" tab to "Local System Account". This didn't resolve
the problem, so I attempted to change it back to "This Account: Local
System", but it won't accept the password which is there but hidden.

Make vertical toolbar width smaller
I prefer my taskbar to be vertical on the left side of the screen. With XP I
can narrow it down to about 2/5 of an inch... just wide enough to show the
time and have all the systray icons stacked on top of each other in one
column.
With Vista the narrowest I can make it is about double that width. Anyone
know if there's any way of making it smaller?

Windows Vista locking up during shutdown
I have a Gateway laptop with Vista preloaded. Frequently during shutdown or
logging off for a new user, I lose wireless conection to the internet and the
computer locks up. I have to turn off the computer with the off button, then
deal with possible issues during the next start up. Suggestions?...

Control panel, Flip 3D and welcome center not working
Hi,
I've just bought a new pc with Vista premium (32 bit) pre-installed and I'm
having trouble.
Whenever I click control panel the window opens, but only for a split second
then closes. That happens every single time I click control panel.

Internet Explorer 7 will not play video online?
Hi,
I have Windows Vista/Internet Explorer 7 when I am on the Internet and when
I click on any video to play it, you would expect Windows Media player to
open and play that video it but it does not do so. I do have Nero 7 installed
so I don't know if that is the problem? How do I get Internet Explorer and or
Windows Media player to play online videos when I click on them?...

Group Policies on Vista box
On XP, I used Group Policy Management Console with Service Pack 1 to manage
my group polices for the PCs on the network.
Can I use Group Policy Management Console with Service Pack 1 on Vista...?

Media Center on Vista Ultimate 64 Always Crashes
I haven't been able to find a solution to this since I started using Vista
and it's one of the few frustrating things (along with I-Tunes crashing and
my Wacom tablet needing continual reinstalling) I have left with this OS that
won't work.

Security Update KB935807 Bombs Out
This is a new Vista security update. It downloaded ok, but it won't
"install." Read through the error message, was given a CODE 8007002,
which required me to shut off a process in Admin Services and clear out
a couple of directories. Did that. Tried again...still bombs out.
Ideas?
Also, now I'm seeing all the damned language pack updates again, the
ones I shut off from seeing months ...

Trouble Shooting audio-recording problems
I have program which receives sound from radio into PC. I must use the LINE
IN jack with the program. Initially I must "open the "volume Control

Multiples Monitors Toolbar
hello!
I am using two monitors and I've extended my desktop. However, all the
windows I drag to the secondary monitor still appear on my toolbar at the
bottom of the primary monitor. does anyone know if it's possible to create a
secondary toolbar to support the windows used by that monitor? I mean, to
extend the toolbar the same way the desktop is extended......

Create restore point gives error 0x80070005 access denied.
And I am seeing errors in the event viewer that restore points could not be
made by program installers. System restore directory is not read only. I

Start menu items vanished, need help restoring!!
Some of my start menu items disappeared including shortcuts to games,

File Registration on VISTA Question ????
We have an install that places some .net .dll's and places some
'stuff' in the registry, etc. The registration 'stuff' is written to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, which I now know is a merge of HKCU/Software/
Classes and HKLM/Software/Classes.
On XP all seems OK as the registry information appears under HKCR and

Internet and Windows as expected went to the MS updates page, only 28
updates waiting. Not bad for a 6 month old OS, nice to look forward to 56 in
