Some of my file entries for ordinary files appear in blue, but not all.
Can anyone please tell me what settings affect this and where to make changes.

hi.
I use panda firewall/virus programme on my vista preinstalled laptop.
Recently, the firewall is alerting me that it has blocked a dangerous
programme, Svchost.exe found within system32. It is blocking it so i don't
think i have anything to worry about but, i just wondered what it was. when

Vista downgrade to xp
Hello,
I just bought a HP dv9525us notebook and it came with Vista. I want to
downgrade to XP but it can't find the sata hard drive.

windows contacts
Hello there. I am very new to Vista and still learning as I navigate around.
I need help with adding a contact to my address book. When I click on
"windows contacts" in the e-mail program the window pops up and there are all
my contacts. I went to help to read about adding a contact and it said open

All Folders Marked "Read Only"
I've discovered in Vista that all my folders are marked read only. This is
bothersome being that in the past I've used bat files to copy specific files
to another area of my current hard drive and my external H.D. Being that the
folders are read only I can no longer do this in Vista. How can I take away
the "read only" attribute permanently? Using "properities" of the folders

Photo Gallery Preview "stuck" in sepia theme
Not sure how it happened but I can't get out of it. When I preview any image
files with "right click | preview" the photo gallery pops up, much like
previous versions of Windows. However it is always displaying the images
with, what appears to be the "sepia" theme of the built-in slide show. I've
cleare out the slideshow to use no them and when I view all images in the

On-screen keyboard
Hi,
The problem is as following. Once I turned on on-screen keyboard. Now I
can't get rid of it. Every time I run or restart my computer, it appears on
the screen. I can uncheck every tool of "Ease of Access Center" on logon
display, except keyboard. What setting do I need to change to fix this
problem?

Vista connection problems with wireless secured networks - wpa2
I am having a windows vista business edition with 32 bit. Im using intel pro
3945ABG wirless card. I am not able to connect to the secured connection i.e
wpa2 - aes and wpa2 - tkip. I have downloaded the latest version of drvers
but 11.1.1.11 but still it didnt work.. please help me.......

Vista Read only ?
I have some users who use Excel a lot . When they created a file and save it
on to the file server(windows 2003) close up . Then go back to it later it
comes up as read-only if they then close the readonly file then open it up
again it works fine. This started to show up only when using vista. If the
same user goes to an xp machine and does the same steps it works fine. Has
anyone else ...

Highlighting in context menu
I'd like to have a darker highlight when scrolling thru Windows
Explorer and context menus. It's currently a very faint blue, hard to
see. Not sure where to change this attribute - ?

Vista's helpful pop up messages...
Hi -
I'm on Windows Visa Hpr 32-bit. I've searched this question on the forum and
I see others have asked it but I didn't see any answers, so I thought it was
worth a try asking myself.
Is there any way to get rid of Vista's helpful pop up messages - like these:
'See Blocked Startup Programs', 'Activity Area has changed', 'See Updates
Vista has installed' etc etc....
They didn't bot...

Reducing the size of desktop icons
Is it possible to reduce the size of the desktop icons, preferably to
something approximating the size of those in XP?

Windows Explorer Popup
I have windows vista home premium. When i start my computer a popup comes up
saying windows explorer is not responding. Then it says it is restarting. But
5 seconds later it does it agian and agian and agian is there any way i can
stop this from happening....

In the BIOS, i did set the Intel(R) SpeedStep Tech item to ( ENABLED),
please, how can i anable the EIST in Windows Vista Ultimate?

Vista sound has changed
Something has changed the sound setup on my computer, and I think it must have been one of the updates. I have auto updates enabled.
Now when the cursor is put on the speaker icon it shows "high definition audio device", and when I select recording devices, it shows 2 microphones and line input.
It used to show the 3 rear input jacks and the 2 front ones. ( I had Home Basic, and upgraded to Home...

I facing lot of problems with vista basic, i am using the lenova y500 series
laptop installed with vista basic its sound quality is very poor,not able to
hear anything second thing i am not able play my dvd's with windows media

Vista sleep stopped working
The sleep function was workign great for me for the first 2-3 months of
having Vista. However, something has changed in the past few months and now
my PC never goes to sleep. I have tried uninstalling any software recently
installed, but still having no luck.
When I hit sleep, the montior will shut off but my PC will never shut off.
Sometimes, the monitor will come back on to the log...

CD/DVD drive is playing up
Hi, most of the time i can insert a cd/dvd and it can play it fine, but for
some disks (that aren't even cratched) they make a funny noise in the drive
and cannot be picked up by my computer, if a dvd like this is recognised by
my computerit diesnt work for long and just freezes. i notice that this is
always come with a funny sound from the drive.

Vista Media Center won't display with multiple displays enabled.
Hi. In a nut shell, this is my problem:
When I start Windows Media Center, my computer monitor goes black and
displays the message "Out of range". When I press the Windows key on the
keyboard, the desktop reappears okay and MC is there on the taskbar, but if I
click it, it goes full screen (black) again. I have to do ALT+F4 to close it.
