Size of Temporary Internet Files is 5Gb after deleting from IE
I have been doing some housekeeping on my vista home premium laptop, when I noted that I seemed to be using a huge amount of disk storage for which I could not account. I traced a huge 5Gb of it to the C:\Users\Gordon\AppData\Local \Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files> folder I cleaned the folders cache, cookies, etc from ie 7 but the size still remains. Of course I can't see a...

Offline files are ignoring group policy
I am beginning to test Vista for a planned deployment in July and have run into an odd situation. I've created a test GPO and am trying to enable the "Administrative Templates/Network/Offline Files/Administratively assigned offline files" policy and adding the appropriate UNC paths. None appear in the sync center after doing a gpupdate and reboot, and none are made available offline. I...

Vista default tree?
I'm trying to find out what the file tree would contain and how it is arranged, if I had installed Vista Home Premium on my new machine and hadn't done anything else. If you wonder why I'd like to know, here is the why. Over the years I've been using computers, from DOS on to Vista, the architects of each OS had slightly different ways of thinking about paths and branches and all that. And ...

Bug in Vista Briefcase
In addition to the generally dire re-implementation of Briefcase under Vista, another (XP/pre-XP?) issue has (re)appeared on Vista HP. I finally caught the briefcase out - in the (badly designed) Update dialog, the "master" version is marked as Modified, and the briefcase copy is marked Unmodified. Select "Details" and one arrives at a "Resolve Conflict" dialog - BOTH files being not...

Trouble moving folders

Is anyone else having this problem and if so is there another solution? This doesn't happen o...

How do I delete a damaged ocx?
How do I delete a damaged ocx from downloaded program files? If I select the file then click "organise", then "delete" nothing happens - no messages, nothing. The control just stays there. Desktop icons won't remember position
Has anyone seen this? Every time I log off and back on (or hit refresh) my desktop icons realphabetize themselves. If I change the sort criteria, it will resort by that (size, for example).
