File Manager doesn't display WHAT file is being copied/moved!?!?!?!
Just says Copying XXX items - From (PARENT directory) to (PARENT directory) <-
notice I capitalized PARENT, because that's what it displays. I.e. I copy a
folder from c:\downloads\mp3s to f:\
All it tells me is that it is copying From c:\downloads to f:\ - doesn't ever
list the actual folder that is being copied. What a POS!

ISO Burning
I was just wondering, does anyone know of a good and free CD burning apps
that is Vista compatible? I really need something that can burn ISO images.
I was using Nero 6 until I upgraded to Vista and I am not ready to buy a new
copy of that yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Death by Briefcase? (Vista "Out of memory")
Vista Home Premium.
Another milestone in Briefcase dysfunctionality.
Anyone else had such dire "out of memory" issues - especially in conjunction
with the Briefcase - as described below?
Yesterday, while attempting a regular update, a Briefcase it complained that
despite having 57% of the installed 2GB RAM free there was "not enough memory
to view the Update dialog box".

HKEY_USERS -- Does it have information for each user?
I was recently responding to a post where a user had accidently un-ticked
the "Always ask before opening" box in IE7 for file downloads, and
discovered the key (no pun intended) in rectifying the problem was to delete
the "AttachmentExecute" key a few folders deep in HKEY_USERS. Now I know
that HKEY_USERS mirrors HKEY_CURRENT_USER, but I also noticed that there's a
lot of keys one direc...

Renaming and Deleting Archives
Hey Everybody,
I've been experiencing some wierd problems with my windows vista. Everytime
I create a folder and I try to rename it, it freezes the computer. Also
everytime I delete something it never completes the "estimated time to
finish" so the pop up is always there. The only solution that I found for
these problems was to open the task manager and finish all the processes. I

lnk file association
Long story short, I'm another one of the dozens of people whose shortcuts and
start menu files have turned into unassociated .lnk files. I've looked at
several other threads and tried the fix that they point to, namely the .reg
fix file. However, whenever I try to merge the file I get an error message
that reads:

question on transaction protection (txf)
I've read about a new transaction protection technology for files on NTFS,
by the name of txf. Does anyone know if only the server needs to be running
2003/vista, or do the work-stations also need to be running vista in order
to make use of this?
Thanks.

Extremely Slow Indexing
One week with Vista and I've got a long list of problems. The most annoying
is Indexing - I have spent a great deal of time trying to get the function to
work properly. Personally I cannot see the point, I was very happy with the
simple search facility in XP. Anyway here goes - as part of the diagnostic
process I checked out Windows Vista Community > Finding & Organizing Files >

Indexing - How it does/should work? - Debate
I read often hereabouts that the index does not update in real time, to which
the obvious question is: why not?
The indexer receives notifications of events that relate to finding & use
(such as create and delete - I don't know what the whole list is...) so it
seems to me logical that it should cache recent events.
Searches for files should be masked with the results the cache: if the...

how to open a cmd prompt?
A while back on this forum I found out how to delete some troublesome files
by using a command prompt. The large files were making explorer hang, and use
100% CPU. The forum told me to find the folder and right click on it, and
choose open command prompt from the context menu. Then I could use DOS style
commands. That worked beautifully for my purpose, but today when I tried it
again, th...
