slow file delete
I've had vista home supreme or whatever they call it for about ten weeks.
After incessant searching of sites where a newbie can get help with vista I
found a "cure" for the notorious, maddening, infuriating, very slow file
delete (calculating time gizmo) phenomenon. I don't remember what it was or
anything more than my copying a few commands at the dos level and the
problem disappeared....

Files lost after shutdown
Hi,
I am a Vista premium user(32 bit). I had few folders on my desktop that
contained video, audio , photos, docs etc. Once after shutting down my laptop
and restarting later, I found to my shock that all those folders were gone.
I browsed and found that most of them were under "recently changed", but
some were still missing and I could not trace them even on searching. I
reconcile...

Windows Vista Product ID
I need to know where I can find my Product ID for the computer. Not for a
program, but for the computer. Originally on Windows Xp you would find your
Product ID here:
Run > regedit
Go here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
And in the Current Version folder would be the Product ID.
Any help is appreciated....

When I first set up my Windows Vista computer, I created a file called Audio,
and have a lot of mp3's in this file.
I decided to rename the file. I right click on it, and when I try to click
rename, I'm told that I do not have permission to do so.
I am the only user of this computer. I have administrator rights.
If I create a sub folder to this folder, and then try to rename or mov...

How to change 'Group' permissions on existing folder?
I have a similar issue to Bob Eaton's previous post in that I have an app
that stores data in [CommonAppData]/Company/Application. I need to give the
local/users group 'modify' rights to this folder and have the modify right
propagate to child files and folders.
By the way, 'local/Users' also inherits special permissions on this folder
which allow users to create files/objects and ap...

Rename a shared folder in Vista possible?
I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 and find that when I share a folder for network
