Maximum size of shadow copies / restore points
I've noticed what appears to be an interesting quirk with shadow copies.
It looks like Vista bases shadow copies on a "maximum space" rather then
on a guaranteed minimum available space basis.
While reasonable on the surface, there is one problem with this
implementation. If you create a file larger then your shadow copy's
maximum size, delete it, then recreate the file (potentially a few

File associations in Vista
I can't associate particular filetypes with the programs I want in Vista. It
doesn't work using Explorer, nor does it work with the Control Panel defaults
mini-program. In either case, when I browse to the program I want to use and
click OK, that program never shows up in the list. I want to associate all my

Unable to Relocate "Documents" Folder
Hello,
I just reinstalled vista-Ultimate, and I want to relocate the "Documents"
folder to the "D" drive so I can separate my data from the OS, which is
installed on the "C" drive. The process to do this is described at the link
below. However, I am unable to relocate the "Documents" folder, despite this

My folders keep getting Write protected..
Hi..
I'm running Vista Home Premium - and my user account is an Admin-account.
My folders on my HD keep getting set as write protected - and when I change
it ( which is no problem ) - it changes it right back..
It's a problem for some programs, as I keep having to enter licence codes,
they don't "stick"
Same goes for my explorer - it doesn't maintain settings.

Help: I can't get the File & Folder Tasks side bar to appear in my folders
on Vista, as they did in XP.."move the selected item, "delete the selected
item" "copy the selected item" .
I only get the Explorer under the Folders on the side.. How do you move a
file to somewhere in the computer without dragging and dropping or cutting
and pasting???...

Open multiple .txt files

Cant See A Particular Folder in Drive D - do not have any folder made invisible
Hi,
I thought i lost a folder (accidentally erased it) in drive D,but when i
tried to replace that folder and its contents by copying and pasting,I keep
getting a message asking me if i want to replace that folder.The folder
seems to be invisible in drive D and it also doesnt come up from a Search,it
only shows that folder is on drive when when i try to copy and paste the
same folder ...

I used vista disk-cleanup utility to clean up my D: (40GB of music games and
stuff)
,
it showed in the files as:
system error memory dump files (few MB's), temporary files (few
KB's),recycle bin, setup log files, thumbnales (few MB's) etc....
but
per user archived windows error reporting files {2 of them with 75GB each).

Unable to delete folder (0x800710FE
Hi,
I'm trying to delete a folder that I "cut and pasted" from a my docs folder
(redirected) to another location.
I proceeded to get a sync error and when I try to delete this folder I get
Error 0x800710FE: This file is currently not available for use on this
computer.

It's not a folder of audio files!?
How do I get Vista to not show a folder as if it was a folder of audio files?
For example, I have a folder with some linux tgz files in it. When I navigate
to the folder (with the view set to details), I get a view that has for
columns across the top: Name, Artists, Album, #, Genre, Rating. How do I get
this display to go away and the regular detail display with filename, size,
date, etc...

File associations: Vista Home Premium - Works 8
I just purchased a new computer with Vista Home Premium and Works 8. I
have received two emails with attachments that I cannot open, one with
.doc and the other with .wpd.
When I try to open, I get this error message: "This file does not have

Partitions
Anyone got any good tips/sites for partitioning in Vista?
I want to put my docs, videos etc seperate from the O/S. Last time i tried

Where is my temp files folder, and my cookies folder??
On WinME I was able to click on C:,Windows, and then there were folders for
viewing my cookies and one for viewing my temporary internet files. Now I

Adobe PDF thumbnails show as icons
I have a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. When I transferred files from
my old XP SP2 laptop, initially the PDF's showed as a thumbnail of the file,
not as an Adobe icon. Now, all of them show the Adobe icon and not the
thumbanil.

I know about folder templates, I also know that - bizarrely - the view a
folder presents can depend on how you reached it (though if anyone ... "using
your skill and judgement in 20 words or less" can explain the principles feel
free!:), and I know that there is a 5000 (?) limit on the number of
"individual" views that Vista will remember (if only!)

Does someone know which files can i delete from a vista installation and
still make it supportable by MS ?

Vista Search Results Blank
Using the search in Vista, I am getting a list of "blank page" icons with no
file information. This comes up by defoult in the "all" view. If I switch to
specific categorie views like "email", I will have correct results. I have
not been able to solve this, and can't find a cause. Please help!
