System State Restore
Hi! My server is a Dell PowerEdge 2850 running W2K3 SP1, as a Domain Controller for 50 users and desktops on the LAN. I have made a backup of the System State. Just as a way of preparing for a major crash, I tried to restore the System State on an other machine with not the same hardware as on the Dell PowerEdge. It is fine for the AD (users & computers, etc.) but not at all for som...

WS2003 SP2 - "Help and Technical support" service disappeared
That's all: when I apply SP2 to a W2K3-SP1, there isn't any warning or error event, nor any error message: everything looks fine. But, after reboot, that service doesn't even _exist_. If I unistall SP2, everything returns to normal state. If I export the "helpsvc" registry branch (while in SP1) and merge it after SP2, it works fine (well, it seems). But, of course, I don't dare to use t...

Win 2003 64bit print server and 32bit workstations

Server 2003 Standard SP1 and SBS 2003 - do they work and play well together?
As the question states. We may be adding another Windows 2003 Server and a person of some influence likes the Remote Web Workspace feature. Does it make sense, good or bad, to fold an SBS box into our network? Is this very common practice, if at all? What pitfalls and pratfalls do we face? Thanks in advance. -_-...

WS2003 SP2 stops scheduled tasks
Since we installed SP2 of WS2003 on one of our servers, most scheduled tasks have stopped executing. The only tasks which continue to execute are the system tasks for Shadow Copies. The tasks will all start manually, it is the automated schedule which doesn't work any more. The only docs I can find on MS's website is to do with uninstalling this SP, when apparently this does cause a ...

Vista printer drivers for Server 2003
We have five different printers that are deployed as shared queues from a WS2003 server using pushprinterconnections under XP. The manufacturers for most of these printers have not produced Vista versions of the drivers. Instead, they say "Use the built in drivers that come with Vista". I presume that for queues pushed down from the server, we need the 2003 built-in drivers to be upd...

How to reinstal (NOT cloning) using a script created in a previous manual install?
I ask it primarily regarding installation of Server 2003 R2 but if a solution exists for other MS OSes that will be helpfull. Like recording a macro in MS Office applications, is it possible to record all inputs from one manual installation then use it as a script for repeat fully automated installations? I emphasize again: No cloning but rather automatic scripted reinstall. This overco...

Moving programs from a full c drive to another drive on same server
Hi all Ran into a place where they had two partinioned drives on the same computer. The hardly used the second drive, hence it is 90% empty. On the other hand the C drive is where all the companies programs and network shares reside, hence the drive is now so full, even defrag will not work. Is there a best practice procedure for moving the programs and network shares to the other empty...

Backup options
<Also posted to ...General> Hello. I am looking for any opinions in addition to Googled results for a backup solution for a single server operation, Windows 2003 Server Standard SP1 acting as PDC/AD Controller including Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise. Although it would be nice to have such backup features as the fine-granularity restore capabilities of the Symantec Backup for...

How can I set up Windows Server 2003 with NO C:\ Drive?
We have a customer complaining that our installer won't work on their Citrix Metaframe Server. The crux of the problem seems to be that their platform doesn't have a C:\ drive and that this causes some sort of problem for our installer. We've been trying to create a platform in-house that we can use for testing. We're trying to install Windows in such a way so as to end up with a system ...
