Server or peer-to-peer
I am looking at purchasing a new software program and I have a question as to
compatability. We have SBS2k3
The documentation on the program says that for a server environment, at
minimum we need Windows Server 2000/03, which we don't have. The sales
department says that since we use SBS2k3, we aren't technically using a
server but are a peer-to-peer environment.
Not that I don't t...

Cut off spam from 127.0.0.1?
A few enterprising individuals are managing to send spam as if it was
coming from the internal network. I'm not quite sure how they're doing
this.
When I look at the SMTP logs I don't see times that quite match the time
of the message, so I'm not sure it's even in the SMTP logs. However, I
do see reference to these message in the Exchange Server logs, in the
SERVERNAME.log directory. One o...

URGENT - Can't Log On to SBS2003 box
We have a newly installed SBS2003 box that was working fine until I
disabled the external nic over the weekend (by accident) whilst logged
on as admin from home via remote desktop.
It now won't let anyone log on locally - it says "the local policy of
this system does not allow you to log on interactively", so I can't
log on to re-enable the disabled adapter!
Can anyone provide any help -...

sbs .local or .com
I have read many folks saying not to use a .com domain when setting up a
2003 SBS. However I did one 2 years ago and never saw any problems (did it
before reading).
I now need to do another for a new company. Can somebody give any valid
reasons why I shouldn't use domain.com?
Thanks
Ryan

RE: New Server
Hey all,
I am in the need of setting up a new server (harware & software), I will be
requiring it in a small business environment with about 20 users. I was
wondering if I could solicit opinions on which the best windows server
package is to use, there are so many. I know I would like to use Exchange
and that it comes with SBS, is this the best way to go? What are the pros

Hi, I should download mails using pop3 connector. My mail provider uses
secure connections on port 995 instead of standard 110.
How I could manage it with sbs2003r2? Do I have to use expensive third party
connector?
thank you.

Migrate from regular 2003 R2 Domain to SBS?
We have a small network that is currently running under Windows 2003R2. it is
running Exchange 2003 already and is the domain controller for a small
development network (we make video games). The workstations are mix of XP Sp2
and Vista Premium (2 32 bit, 1 64 bit). Currently all users have been working
on their boxes under their Domain ID's (the 2003 box is a domain controller).

Out of my league
I am doing some consulting work for a very small business (3 employees).
They currently have a server running SBS 2000. They really don't need a
server and would be better served by using remote desktop as they have
no IT employee and were paying their old consultant an arm & a leg.
I have no server experience, but was able to migrate the files off of
the machine. Now I've run into a problem b...

Trusting SMB Domain
Hi,
I currently have a Small Business Server setup with around 25 users.
I'm in the middle of building a new domain on a separate piece of hardware.
In an ideal world I would like to create a trust relationship between the SMB
Server domain and the new domain I'm creating. I understand this is not
possible as it's a restriction on the SMB server, please correct me if I'm
wrong.

adding new server to sbs 2003 domain - licensing issues
Our sbs 2003 is getting small because of the sbs user limitations and we are
planning to add new server 2003 standard to the domain.
Can/how the licenses will be handled in the new server instead old SBS?
If I have understood correctly the old SBS needs to be the top dog and the
new server would be just added to the domain. Most of the server roles would
be moved to the new server (ex...
