I have set up a Windows 2003 Server R2 with a domain, DNS server and file server. I followed the wizard to do this and when I check the server management wizard it tells me that it is set up correctly. I have created a container with two users and a group. NAME RESOLUTION - MIXED MODE
I can no longer join computers to my mixed mode domain without "domain cannot be found" error. I've added wins to no avail. Tried lmhost file to no avail. PTR Record disappearing from AD Integrated zone
Hello, We have this weird occurance we have been trying to figure out recently. Every few days, we will have a record from DNS reverse zone (which is AD Integrated) disappear. The record that disappears is a Domain Controller. The forward record stays. Only the Reverse will disappear. There is no fix cycle. This happens randomly but every few days apart. Not a fix number of days. Just an...

Forcing registration of PTR when DHCP server is in another forest
Hi, I have two seperate 2003 forests. A DHCP server is running in FOREST1. I have XP Clients in FOREST2 which get their IP and DNS details from the DHCP server in FOREST1. The XP Clients are correctly registering and updating their A record in DNS in FOREST2, but are not registering themselves in the Reverse Lookup Zone. So far, I have tried using group policy to force the DNS clien...

missing site after reinstalling server 2003
I got no reaction in the german newsgroup, so I try here, too. We had to reinstall the server at a customers branch office site. I first demoted the old server, deinstalled all services like DNS, WINS, DHCP and reviewed the AD at the other sites. I deleted the A-record in DNS and wait for a while to ensure replication. Additional it took about 4 hours to install the new server with all ...

General DNS config questions
OK, here's the deal. For the past several months our company has been receiving a LOT of delayed emails. Some by a few hours some by a few days. As you can guess, this is a serious problem. I've tried several things to resolve this situation: 1 - call our ISP, who was taking care of DNS for us at the time. They said they'd heard of others having the same issue, but that the DNS record...

Can anyone help me with this?
Hi all, Recently, we experienced the internet slowness. The speed test is fine. It takes too long to resolve the names. If I used the IP instead of host name in IE, the web page came up much faster. So, it must be DNS servers. How do I ensure it's DNS server issue? (We have one forest and child domain DNS forwards to the root domain DNS IPs and root DNS IPs forwarded to ISP DNS ...

AD DNS subdomains fail when internet lost
Yesterday, we lost our ISA server and while it was down, internal DNS went in the toilet. Our internal DNS is AD integrated. When the internet was lost, and therefore external DNS was lost, clients became unable to contact r...

Resolution internally for domain name minus the www.
Hi, I have always set up AD up with the same AD domain name as their registered domain. After installation, I always manually add www to the DNS server so internally they can type www.domainname.com to get to the external corporate site, but how do I let them also just type in domainname.com and still get there? This has for the first time ever become an issue for me. Thank you. ...
