dcdiag.exe /test:DNS > Delegation is broken for the domain
hi guys! (windows 2003+3 DCs+1domain+DNS Integrated zone)
After every restart, all of my DCs are deadly slow to show up the
domain and allow users to logon. Giving a look at the events, i found
that the DNS service is delaying 22 minutes to get started. That made
me try dcdiag.exe /test:DNS and got the following weird error message:
DNS server: 192.168.12.5 (dc1.mydomain.com.)

DHCP option 119
Hello,
DHCP option 119 is the Domain Suffix Search order and using this option
seems to be most elegant versus group policy or reg hack. The following
link provides instructions how one might setup MS DHCP to dish out this
option; however, WinXP clients don't seem to pick it up.

A domain controller for the domain abc.local could not be contacted
Greetings,
I am trying to join a computer to my new domain on a Windows Small Business
Server 2003 and keep getting the following error: A domain controller for
the domain abc.local could not be contacted.
After reviewing the error details I feel I'm close to solving the problem
(I'm pretty sure it's the Host (A) record not being set right), I just don't
know where to look to actuall...

DNS Setting Problem with Server 2003 and XP
We have a small domain with one controller that is also used for DNS and a
Linksys wireless Internet router. The problem is when I set the XP PC to
obtain DNS address automatically, the PC does not log into the domain and the
DNS shows as the router address. When I set the PCs Preferred DNS IP to the
domain controller IP and the Alternate DNS IP address to the router IP, the
PC logs in...

Preparing Network Connections
When I reboot some of my 2003 DC, they get to "Preparing Network Connections"
and sit for AT LEAST 5 minutes before the CTRL-ALT-DEL screen comes on. Is
this normal for DCs?
I have read some articles saying it is a DNS problem however I have run
DCDIAG and everything looks fine. I don't know what else to do . Any
suggestions would be appreciated....

2 DNS servers, one for Internet, one for AD
I work remotely, connected by VPN to the office server and Active Directory.
For AD to wotk properly, I need to use the office server for DNS, but this
makes Internet lookups slow. Is there a way to have my remote PC direct
Internet DNS queries to my ISP but still retain the use of the office DNS
where appropriate?
thanks for help,

Simple Windows Server DNS question.
Scenario...
I have a windows DNS server "A" in a windows AD environment.
I have non windows DNS server "B" in a remote location.
Other then able to communicate on the WAN both servers have no

Both DNS servers need to add each other as forwarders for DNS queries.
So I believe I need to grant/add "B" servers access to "A" somehow to allow
resolutions. So to my knowl...

Different Round Robin TTL
using round robin to distribute load, i know, a poor mans solution, i want
to use different TTL's so that some machines are cached longer and get more
load. however, when i query the record on the authorative dns server, all
entries will get the same TTL, namely the lowest TTL. also a ping to the dns
name gives me the same result.
is it not possible to use different TTL's?

Netbios Resolution Question
I've searched the web for a while to the answer to this question, and
can't seem to find anything.
Currently, there's a program that, once installed, requires an entry
to the hosts file of each individual PC. I know that there's some way
to configured this in DNS (vs. hosts file), I just don't know where or
how.
The entry in the hosts file is:
