DHCP not updating DNS
Hello,
my office has a Windows 2003 server network set up using both DHCP and DNS
on the DC. We have a problem where all XP machines are getting registered in
DNS but our own developed equipment or network printers are not. Both our
equipment and the network printers use FQDN option 81 and requests the DHCP
server to update the DNS and support for this option is also enabled in the ...

Hi there,
Currently i can access my OWA by typing http://exchangeservername/exchange

However i want it to be www.company-name.com/exchange for both internal and

Dynamic DNS Updates via DHCP Only
Recently I came across with a problem in configuration of DHCP server as a
proxy for DNS updates.
I need to force all DHCP clients to use DHCP server for dynamic DNS updates.
These clients include Windows XP laptops (most of them). I configured DHCP
pool to ALWAYS make updates at DNS for its clients and disabled dynamic DNS
registration on the clients.
Nothing happened. No updates ini...

DNS Entries Disappear
We seem to coast along then, out of the blue, we lose 3-4 DNS entries. They
are new 2003 machines and NT machines. We manually put them back.
The AD installation was configured to be integrated with DNS. It is as if
an aging process is taking place, then "boom", entries are deleted.

How to restore connection with hosts file?
Hi,
I tested something called Tor yesterday. (Inter alia it also installs
software called Privoxy.) This on a development Win 2003 server.
After testing it I found that entries in the hosts file appeared to be
ignored.
I then uninstalled all the test components, expected to get back to normal.
Unfortunately hosts still appears not to be "connected".
I've subsequently found tha...

I want to set up my 2003R2 server DC on a ".local" domain.
Using my firewall router, I am also pointing a public ip address using port

2003 loaded on this server too).
Can anyone direct me to an article that may help me with how to configure
this?

Actually, everything is in place in the destination domain (DNS, DHCP &

Even reverse lookup zones are already ONLY defined in the destination

whois and DNS
Hi all,
Is it possible that a public DNS domain name can propogate without a few
days before it has it WhoIs registration info stored on WhoIS servers.
The domain in question had never been registered before. I am not sure
which comes first WHOIS or DNS records, and if a WHOIS must be defined
before DNS servers will propogate the DNS info

Mike.

DNS/Wins not working after change!
We moved the domain controller and changed the settings for the Wins/DNS and
now neither the DNS/Wins is working. It won't let us add a new DNS zone
without errors regarding the active directory.
Is there some other address or setting I'm missing. Didn't think changing
the new dns/wins ip address would make it not work at all. The roaming
profiles won't load either.
Did change the...

WINS required for multi subnet 2003 domain using DFS with 2k&XP clients ?
Hi. We are deploying a new small network (single domain over multiple
subnets) with the O/Ss below and would appreciate if anyone could clarify
whether we should setup WINS Servers on the two domain controllers ? In
particular does the use of 2003 R2 DFS/DFSR and 'Network Places' require
NETBIOS and therefore in our case due to multiple subnets WINS Servers ?

Linux vs Windows Server
Hello all,
I have a SMB client that is doing web hosting. They have 2 RedHat Linux
servers as their main DNS servers in a Primary-Primary configuration.
Problem is the users are prone to make errors in the DNS config files because
they just can't seem to get used to using vi as their text editor.
Obviously, this is no good. Since the end user is used to the Windows world,
I was t...

Multihomed Domain Controller readding DNS entry
I hope someone can help with this situation.
We have 2 DCs in our office and 2 DCs in another office on the other side of
the state. The Domain Controllers in our office have 2 IP addresses assigned
to the NIC. 192.168.1.x and 192.168.3.x. In the TCP/IP advanced properties
we have the "register this connection's address in DNS" unchecked.

have automatic scavenging of stale records, AD integrated and dynamic
updates. For the life of me, I can't figure out why DNS is not updating.
