DNS or DHCP
Hello,
i hava AD W2K with DNS and DHCP. Noticed that i couldnt connect remotely to
some pc and after check in DNS there are some IPs associated to up to 3
workstations. This is occurring for about 10 IPs, all associated to more than
one PC.
In DHCP all PCs have one IP. Some IPs though have no associated computer name.
Funny enough nobody seems to have problems with network applications....

DNS LOGS
I recently put a new proxy server on line using websecurity from symantec. A
few days after this server went online I started getting errors in my DNS
logs from this server. These seem to be happening for 30 seconds to a minute
at different times each day and occasionally a few times a day. They also
don't happen every day. The error messages come in pairs as follows:

Access external FQDN site internally
Hi all,
Is there any way to do the following:
We currently host RWW and OWA internally on our SBS box, and a
subdomain email.domain.com is linked to our static IP address for
external access. Therefore, we just type in email.domain.com/Exchange
for OWA and email.domain.com/Remote for RWW. However, internally, we
can only access OWA and RWW by doing domain.local/Exchange and
domain.local...

Evant ID 140, How do I remove and reinstall RPC on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 DC?
This error suddenly appeared on one of my DCs (64-bit, Windows 2003
Enterprise R2 SP2) a few days ago. No other DCs show this error. The DC
still servers up requests fro clients, just cannot access the server via
MMC, either on the box or remotely.
The TechNet site is not very helpful, as I have not a clue how to remove and
reinstall RPC, especially when it seems to be working fine.

DNS 4512 e/m on newly promoted W2003 DC/DNS server
Hi
I am running the following scenario:
Windows 2000 Server domain, to be upgraded to Windows 2003. All current DCs
are end-of-life, so no operating system upgrades. All DCs will be replaced
with new servers running W2003. The domain is "forest-of-one-domain" model w/
3 AD sites.
I have performed the following steps so far:

Promote Secondary DNS to Primary
Right now I have a Windows 2000 domain I am in the process of upgrading to
Windows 2003 domain and I need to promote my secondary DNS server (which is
Windows 2003) and demote my primary DNS server (which is Windows 2000).
My question is how do I do that, or can I just dcpromo a Windows 2003 server
to a domain controller and it will offer to become the new primary DNS server?
I hope th...

showing the correct name server. I have cleared the cache in the network DNS

MX lookup results different depending on client application
When our mail server performs an MX lookup on humphreygasproducts.com
(which is done during the STMP conversation with their sending mail
server when they send us a message) our internal Windows 2003 (5.2
Build 3790.srv03_sp1_gdr.070304-2232) DNS server returns a "non-
existant domain" reply. If I perform an nslookup on the mx record

Resolve DNS outside of the local Domain

I have a strange issue. Both the internal domain and our outside webservers
have the same domain name. When i ping a record that doesn't exist in DNS

to config DNS to look outside the local LAN if it can't resolve the name
inside. The goal is to be able to get to our website with
