Dynamic DNS, non-domain members and DHCP
Current scenario is; Win2k3 DHCP servers (not DCs), ADI zone/secure updates
only, DHCP configured to perform updates only when requested and for
down-level clients, DHCP configured with dyndns credentials.
Question; the only way i can see to allow non-domain windows XP/2003 clients
is to make the DHCP server perform ALL updates. Is this correct? Is there
any local setting in XP or 200...

servers that I host internally but DNS is controlled by GoDaddy. Our Windows
DNS which is hosted by our domain controller, is hosting an Active Directory

Two _mscds folders in DNS, one is greyed out ?
Hi. We have recently deployed a new Windows 2003 network and have noticed
today that in the DNS console we have two _mscds folders, one outside the
DOMAIN.NET folder and one insite the DOMAIN.NET folder. The folder outside
the DOMAIN.NET folder contains all the usual entries that it should contain
and the greyed out version inside the DOMAIN.NET folder contains one NS
Entry for one of ...

Https and DNS
Hi All,
If a website uses https for connectivity and has a Forward DNS entry
resolving its domain name to a particular ip address e.g. Windsong.com to
217.65.1.1; however, the reverse DNS entry resolves the same ip address to a
different domain name e.g. 217.65.1.1 to DanceSteps.com, and DanceSteps.com
is not valid and does not have an associated forward DNS entry. Could that
account...

I have serveral linux-based file servers that store various software updates
that get distributed to my Windows XP clients. When we installed Windows
Server 2003 we switched from WINS to DNS, since doing that my XP clients
cannot find my linux file servers by the netbios name as they were able to
when we were using WINS. If I ping by the fqdn (ex. pgmob1.dvmc.local) I get

Phantom Entries in DNS Reverse Zone
Hi,
I have a Windows 2003 AD domain, which began as a 2000 AD Domain, but we
added new servers and demoted and retired the old ones. No problems on
that score.
We have two entries in the DNS Reverse Zone that simply will not go
away. They belonged to Linux boxes that had A records manually recorded
in the Forward Zone with automatic creation of PTR, but have since
killed these boxes. W...

what gets scavenged?
If you set aging/scavenging, does it just scavenge A and PTR records or does
it do everything (NS, SRV, etc)? I ask because I have lots of SRV records

stamps are still the date when the DC came online. Is this normal?
Thanks.
