where is this old server listed?
I'm looking at my DHCP Server settings from my XP Pro machine, so have to
Add Server, then tell it what server to add.
On the Add Server screen the second option is "This authorized DHCP server"
and in the list is my current DC server and my old DC that has been off for
line of a year or more.
This (at least for me) confirms that there is/are still references to the
old server at 192.1...

Inside DNS Issue
We have DNS setup for our current domain and I have all the proper
entries so users get to my mail server via the internal ip instead of
the outside ip.
For example:
ourdomain.com has entries for smtp.ourdomain.com as a mail exchanger
and a host record and they both go to my internal ip 192.168.x.x
Our mail domain name is changing and it will not be same as the name
of our DNS domain. I...

DNS/AD/RPC issues
Starting last Sunday (day before memorial day), we started getting a
slew of critical errors in our logs, as well as lost functionality on
our domain:
We have three Domain Controllers at AD 2003 level. We also have two
Exchange 2003 boxes (front/back configuration), and a few other boxes.
All servers are Win2K3 SP2.
Two of our three Domain Controllers (DC1 & DC2) are essentially

Why is e-mail being rejected when sending to an external domain?
I have a user that is trying to send e-mail to another user in a different
domain; however, the message gets a bounce back. every time We are able to
send e-mail to most external domains except two or three (as of now). I'm
assuming this is some sort of DNS issue but I'm not sure where to start
looking. Can anyone assist me with this? I would be so grateful.

EventID 4521 after W3K2SP2
I am reposting htis question because I think it is getting ignored as a reply
to an existing thread.
I am seeing the DNS Event ID 4521 problem after installing W2K3SP2. A posted
solution is to change the "Load zone data on startup" from "from active
directory and registry" to "registry". The twist here is that the zone in
question is at a customer who has their external (real) domai...

Workstation Causing DNS Problems
Hi,
I've noticed several event 53 errors on our DNS server relating to CertSvc
(below). Due to the error message ("DNS name does not exist") I looked at
our DNS, and found that the workstation is creating its own folder!? So we
now have:
Forward Lookup Zones

2 Domains
We have an existing Server 2003 setup as a domain controller. We just
purchased a new Dell Server which will eventually replace the existing
server. My plan is to setup the new server on our network with a different
Server Name and domain name than our current server and domain, then join
our workstations to the new domain at our leisure.
Our workstations are assigned the OLD server's i...

DNS issue
I have a single AD domain spread across several locations with T1 links back
to our Admin building. We had a Verizon circuit problem and no one on that
segment could login. I have two DNS servers at one of the remote sites that
handles DNS for the entire domain. How can I avoid a situation like this
should it happen again in the future? DNS caching? Thanks for your help....

What is going on with my DNS server...
I'm studying up on DNS (Windows 2003 server with Active Directories) so
thought I would take a look at how my network is setup. (some I setup and
some I had outside help with)
I found a DNS entry for an old server (DC/DNS server) that hasn't been on
line for a year or more.
I deleted the entry in DNS for the old server (192.168.0.1) and as soon as I
did, the phone started to ring sayin...

First lookup fails...
Hi,
I have DNS running on a SBS 2003 server. When we first go to a web site, the
lookup fails, if we hit refresh it works fine. I'm not sure on the timeing
of the lookups, but it will fail again after a bit of time (an hour or so).
I've looked at the debugging log and I can see a "servfail" but no good
reason why it should happen.
Thanks,
Dave

Some Printers not in DNS
We have 20+ printers on the network (same subnet). Some show in DNS
and some do not. I do not see any differences between the ones that
show up and the ones that do not.
Printers are installed on 3 different Windows 2003 Servers. Domain
Controllers are Windows 2000.
All of the printers are listed in AD.
Driving me nuts.
Thanks,
