Windows DNS CNAME Record with a "." in it
I need some help with a DNS issue. Our existing domain name is rajones.com;
which is also outside domain name for website. So, we have a DNS entry for
"WWW" that points to the web server so when users type "WWW.RAJONES.COM" they
get the corp website.
Due to new owners, our web site will be "WWW.OYSTAR.RAJONES.COM". I need to
have a similar record to the above "WWW" pointing to the we...

A Puzzling DNS Resolution Issue
Hello,
Can anybody please assist me with this puzzingly DNS resolution
issue.
We have just migrated a number of TLD domains to new IP addresses.
All
domains are hosted on a new single webserver. The DNS delegation is
now complete.
Using Internet Explorer on an external PC we are able to resolve any
one of the
migrated domain names.
Using Internet Explorer on the Host webserver we...

Zone Error After 2003 Upgrade
Hello,
I am running a test Win2000 to Win2003 upgrade in a lab. I started with a
Win2000 DC and an Exchange 2000 server. I ran the Windows 2003 forest prep
and domain prep on the Win2000 DC. Then, I ran DCPROMO on the Windows 2003
server. The promo completed successfully, however, when I go into the DNS
control panel on the new Win2003 DC, I see my domain listed as a AD

DNS Entry for Website
Our AD domain is say, example.com.
We have a hosted website on someone else's network.
So that address is example.com, or www.example.com, and outside our network
that works fine when typed in a web browser.
But within our network the address ahtins.com won't work, not found error.
I assume that's because of the domain name being the same as our internatl
AD name?
What entry in o...

Setting Security on DNS ACLs
Hello all,
Currently I have a single-domain forest for my enterprise. We have
extensive delegation enabled in AD for different locations in order for
administrators of those locations to be able to manage their resources.
Those admins have requested access to their DNS entries. The reverse zones
are simple, but the forward zone is causing some trouble because I'm not to
give them ac...

DNS settings: Scavenge Stale Records
Hello all.
I need some advice about settings regarding scavenging of stale records.
We have AD intergrated zones (both forward and reverse) that allow secure
dynamic updates. Scavenging has not been enbabled.
Now the zone has many duplicates as a result that machines change IP's so
both IP's and host names are listed several times. This causes a few
headaches for name-resolution.

configuration is set up to always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records,
even for those clients that do not request it. We do this because we have
WinCE thin clients that do not update DNS on their own.

Random Network Disconnects
Hello:
I am having a problem diagnosing a random network disconnect for one of my
Windows 2003 R2 Sp2 servers. It will randomly disconnect itself from the
network and the only way I can seem to get it back up is to restart the box.
Here is a portion of a netdiag with verbose logging turned on. I had to
edit some portions out due to confidentiality.

Odd behavior for DC records

regarding the DNS records for our Domain Controllers.
A few weeks ago, we added new servers with Win 2003 R2 as domain

only have one of their NICs enabled at this point. There were no problems
encountered while migrating the domain or the...

the expected records, and this extra one:
wpad.wrbenson.local

Name does not exist.
I never heard of wpad - afaik, it's never been an object in AD or DNS or
DHCP; is this something I should try and fix? If so, where to start?
TIA,
