DFS initial setup behaving bizzarly
Hello pros, Today when I configured DFS I pointed the root to an existing share and all went as expected. The trouble was observed when I configured a link inside the dfs root. I have tried linking to an existing folder and endeavoring to create one whilst configuring the new link; the result is the same: browsing to my root, then to my link(s) produces a folder within folder effect d...

SBS 2003 R2 and Server 2003 R2
Im hoping someone can clear this up easily. With a mixed domain on multiple sites what functionality do I get with SBS 2003 R2 and server 2003 R2 on a separate site. Ive used (fairly sucessfully) 'normal' SBS 2003 FRS replication to a std 2003 server. I understand I wont get the Enterprise functionality, if I make a server Enterprise do I get it, even with a sbs 2003 r2 server in ther...

DFS cost setup
I have 2 R2 member servers (file servers) and have a name space with 2 folders. How can I set up the DFS so users from site A go to server A and users on site B go to server B? It looks like all users are going to site B server even if residing on site A. Thanks in advance. ...

Why Can I Not Browse For DFS Shares Using Windows Explorer?
I installed a new Storage Server R2 server and created several namespaces. Then I created folders within those namespaces targeted to shared folders on the Storage Server and a few other member servers. I then added those folders to AD, specifying the namespace path. All of the above worked fine, but I cannot see the DFS shares under Entire Network. The only way for me to access the s...

Missing Files from Replication Partner
I have set up a DFS link with automatic replication between two servers. Both running Windows 2000 SP4. There were no problems on Day 1 but on Day 2, it was reported that files were being opened and worked on, but after the files were closed, they could not be found again. The DFS is a very recent implementation and all the client machines have either direct UNC links or mapped drive...

The KB813053 "Not Supported" message
I tried setting up a second domain-based DFS root on my W2K3 Standard SP1 domain. Of course, I got the "request is not supported" message, which lead me to KB813053 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813053 where I learned Standard doesn't support more than one DFS root, upgrade to Enterprise ($$) or Datacenter ($$$$$) ...or apply this little patch - KB903651, http://support.microsoft.com/k...

Autocad saves to DFS accross Domain 50% of the time
Problem: Autocad files are not saving considtently from a client in a trusted domain. Background: There are 3 DFS servers (Windows 2003 R2) located in 3 different Cities in the same domain (TMC.Local, Windows 2000). For the last year all replication has worked just fine. On May 11th our organization consolidated to a new domain (Thermon.Local, Windows 2003). All users are now authenticati...

DFS Backup
Hi My three remote sites and my HQ file server replicate (via DFS R2) to a Core server to which is attached my backup devices. When backing up this replicated data, what is the best way to prevent backup failures ? 1) Manually (or via batch file) stop the DFS-R service. 2) Set replication schedule to stop at eg 7pm prior to the backup starting at eg 8pm. 3) Do nothing ! Reason I ask, i...

Confused between DFS of R2 and non-R2!!
OK, so if any of you have read my posting before you probably already know that I run a Windows Server 2003 SP1 on all my servers in our Domain. I am now starting to load them with R2 and SP2. So today for the first time I created a DFS Namespace and folder with the new DFS Management snap-in on one of the R2 servers. I've created plenty of DFS Roots and Links before on my SP1 servers and ...

DFSR site change
Hello, I have setup two servers located in the same site (same subnet) for initial replication to occur over a 1Gb link. Then I plan to move the secondary server off-site. Will I have to delete the current connection and re-create another pertaining to the receiving members new site? And if so, after creating the new connection, will initial replication have to occur again? Thank...

Do backups effect replication?
We are looking at implementing DFS in a hot standby scenario for our users and shared data volumes accross our internal LAN. One question being, do backups effect replication? (As DFS looks at the USN of the file) We use HP data Protector, which presumably adds an update/flag to the files when they've been backed up. Will this cause an increase in traffic after files are backed up? A...

DFS and FRS - Is this a good solution
I am considering utilizing DFS and FRS for our office. We have a primary data storage location that will house roughly upto 80gig of information at any one time. The majority of this information will remain static as many active projects go on and off hold often. The information contents will be primarily Autocad Files, Office Docs, Photos - (JPG). This active storage location...

DFS share showing root target disk space and not actual disk space
DFS is currently only showing the initial root target - which is a link folder on the C drive - and not the final distination of the full DFS path. This causes an issue as the disk space on the C is 1Gb free, where as the users are expecting to see 1Tb free. Saving files over 1Gb fails, even though the folder they are saving to has loads of diskspace. Any ideas why DFS is showing and us...

DFS IP Subnet aware
Hi Guys, have two questions (both a little exotic have to admit): - Is there a command line command that can be executed on the client side and makes a specific DFS server preferred? - Let say we have one site and 5 DFS servers, all in different IP subnets. I want to set clients to point to the DFS server within their own IP subnet. In other words do you know a way to make DFS IP Subnet ...
