Cannot access DFS Replication performance counters
Hi, I have DFS-R set up between a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 in German with SP2 and a Windows 2003 Storage Server R2 x64 English with SP2. The initial replication seems to work, the staging area is filling, files are replicated from the primary member (the Storage Server). But the DFS-Replication event log on the Enterprise Edition Server (named XXXXX here) shows no act...

Scripting out DFS and Replication
I'm using 2003 R2 all around and trying to implement DFS and Replication. Using DFSUTIL, DFSCMD, and DFSRAdmin to script out the creation/configuration of the Namespace server(s), folder targets, replication group(s), etc. I am able to create everything and it all works correctly. I have two questions/problems that I'd like some help with. 1) If I use the DFS MMC snap-in to delete a ...

Hello everyone, we have an urgent problem with our DFS-R Replication. Following Situation: We have 5 Servers in one Replication group. Everything was fine, until we added a new Server (branchoffice). The Initial Replication begins and finished. But after a short time the initial replications started again and hangs in this state. No data is replicated anymore between the members. th...

Staging Folder size guidance
Hi We are testing an implementation of DFS-R for our users home and shared data folders (in a hot standby scenario, to provide resilience) We've tested using small volumes data (10GB) and ran the diagnostic report to evaluate the replication efficiency, confilicts and staging folder size (which are currently left as defaults) We hope to use DFS-R for about 1.5TB data total with app...

hi all, i've two sites with 1 DC on each one. 1 DC is running windows server 2003 server (sp2) the other one is running Windows server 2003 R2. I plan to use dfs frs or dfs replication of R2 version to synch files between both sites, and dfs namespace for high availability of files. I've got two questions. 1 - is possible to use dfs replication on with one non R2 server or do i n...

DFS across different domains and forests
What options do I have to use DFS across different domains and different forests? I have read that the different domains is not an issue as long as they are contained within the same forest. However, because of design issues I have two seperate forests. If it is not possible could someone direct me on how I merge forests so I have just one? Maybe merge is not the correct term to use here....

Event ID: 5014
I keep getting the following warning in eventvwr. It says that the RPC failed which I can't find anything about on google. Does anyone know what could be causing this? FRS: Excel files being renamed/deleted
Setup: two servers, one is SBS standard 2k3 R2 the other is Windows Server standard 2k3 R2 x64. FRS used to sync a DFS share. Version of ntfrs.exe on both servers is 5.2.3790.3959 Problem: Users are seeing Excel files disappear or renamed to 8-digit hex names with no extension. This sounds a lot like the problem described in KB823230/KB811370 but these are obviously later versions. H...

Re: Pointing to specific DFS referral for only one user.
Is there anyway to specify which DFS referral to use for a specific user through the net use command. I have set up all users to point to a specific referal by giving the dfsutil command on the server /w GlobalHigh and it is working great but one of the remote users; only one wants to point to another server. The user does not want to login and set the DFS referral every time through M...

Namespace Servers, Replication and ABE
Hi, I have 2 questions. 1. Can cluster nodes be in the namespace server list because the DFSRoots folder is created on local disk for a Domain-based DFSroot? (I am aware that the DFS-R service is not cluster aware) 2. Is it advisable to permission the C:\DFSRoots\* directory in order for ABE to work on DFS folders without targets and if so, do you need to apply the permissions ma...

How domain DFS works under the hood...
Hey all, Trying to get a non-windows box to figure out how to use a DFS path. Normally resoultion would just run port 53 DNS lookup for a host name and resolve it (which I can do with the device using direct server names). Can someone give me a good overview of how DFS strays from this method so I can try and get this working or atleast be able to communicate with the vendor? By th...

DFS on server 2003 R2 - DFS root question
Hi, We had an existing DFS structure similiar to this \\domain\DFS\share The share locations were spread around offices, running on 2003 file servers without R2. We have since upgraded all DC's to R2. Now if I created a new share \\domain\DFS\new With the target locations all on R2 servers, will it take advantage of the new DFSR, even though the other share still runs on non R...
