File Replication Service
During an unsuccessfully attempt to set up an FRS between 2 Windows
2003 Servers across the network, the source folder appears to have
disappeared. Would the source folder be hidden on the server somewhere
and if so where or is it likely to be lost for ever?

Branch Office
Hello,
I have roaming profiles and they are getting large due to java applications
storing things in the roaming profile. Anyways, I was hoping that I could
set a server up at each branch so that the roaming profile would be loaded
from the local server instead of the remote server. This in turn would speed
up log in and log off times. So I set up a namespace and then replication.
I...

FRS (sysvol) contents slow to replicate
Windows 2003 SP1 on all DC's.
We have five DCs in our domain divided amongst four sites. DC1 and
DC2 are in one site/subnet, DC3, DC4, DC5 are all in their own site on
their own subnets. The only low bandwidth connection is for DC3 which
is a T1. Replication schedules are four times an hour for all DC's
except DC3 which is set for once an hour. All the site to site
replication connecti...

DFSR Report error: "Cannot retrieve version vectors from this member" for one user
In the last week, I receive this message as an error in any DFS
Replication Health Report I run for any replication group. However,
when I had another Domain Admin run the same report from her account
on a different workstation, she did not have this error in the report.
In the report it states Description: Access denied. for my user, so it
would seem something permissions-wise has gone awry ...

DFS properties & SP2
After applying SP2 to some of our servers we are no longer able to
pull properties on a directory in the dfs path. Prior to the patch we
could RDP into a server and go to \\domain\root\blah\blah1 and right
click on blah1 directory, select properties and view the information.
We are no longer able to do so after applying SP2. If I uninstall SP2
I can view the properties again. Has anyone exper...

msdtc error when installing new DFS management tools on W2003 R2 cluster server
When I install the new DFS management tools from Add Windows
Components on a W2003 R2 cluster server, I get the error that the
msdtc could not be installed. On a cluster server the msdtc service is
stopped and set to manual, so the error is not surprising. The setup
finishes without a problem though and everything seems to be working
fine.
Should the DFS tools be installed before one insta...

Two way replication has stopped
I have two R2 servers setup for DFS Replication and Namespaces. The two way
Replication was working well, but now replication is only working one way,
and some folders are not replicating at all. The DFS Health reports look
fine and when I click verify topology, the message states that the topology
is fully connected. There are no really strange errors logged in the Event
Viewer. An...

DFSR file version regressions
2 WS2003 R2 servers with a DFS namespace containing a DFSR-replicated share.
Currently, the 2 servers are on the same AD site. Soon, one server will be
moved to a branch office (different AD site), at which point we will be
using DFSR to back up the branch office's data using the main office's
server.
DFS referrals are enabled to only 1 of the 2 shares, ensuring
(theoretically) that ...

DFS for storage at 20TB +
Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with using DFS in an environment of 20TB+ on
Windows Storage Server? I'm looking at running 8 or so HP DL320s servers
with 8TB each and connecting to them from servers using DFS. Is this
practicle at this level of storage? Other possibilities are obviously high
end NAS/SAN from say EMC but costs are pretty prohibitive (8 times costs of
HP kit). Any ...

DFS & MS06-074
We just applied the MS06-074 patch to our servers and now when we go \
\blah\blah2\blah3 and right click and go to properties we do not get
anything! We use to see the properties of blah3 and the tabs
"General" , "Security", "DFS" and "Customize" and now nothing pops up.
If the server hasn't been patched we are still able to see the
properties on the DFS share.
Has anyone experienced this...

DFS and Mapped Drives
Hello All,
Are there any problems with using DFS with a mapped drive using a login
script?
E.g. net use p: \\dfsspace\data\share
I have been told that it causes problems and is not a good solution but
using it makes my life so much easier because I have over 200 users and about
3-4 different share per group of users.
Can you please advice?
Thanks

Multiple DFS roots in SBS SP2
Hi all,
I'm running SBS R2 and recently installed Service Pack 2. Before installing
SP2, I tried adding multiple roots and was told "You cannot create more than
one domain-based DFS namespace on a computer that is running Windows Server
2003, Standard Edition".
Fair enough.
After updating, I did find this KB article

can't seem to locate a lot that talks about this other than an article in
TechNet magazine from early 2005.
I've been looking at how DFS could and would be implement...

Problem Statement:

Id like to provide an exact duplicate of files/folders between servers for
such purposes as high availability, disaster recovery, or load balancing.
And I'd like to do this across a WAN so that when staff roam between these
sites they can share data with their collegues (again at either site) in
realtime, and I'd like them to be able to connec...

primary roles are Terminal Servers so i thought why not.

or more specifically many file operations. E.g. if i copy a folder with 100
1MB files and start about 4 to 5 instances of the copy operation at the same
