WAN FRS Replication Issue
Hi All, We have set up a WAN with our file share replicated amongst our offices so remote users access files locally rather than over a 2Mbps link. We have 4 sites with that host our file share. The issue is that all 4 servers have different versions of the files located on them! When testing, If I create a test file, it is immediately replicated to all servers. However one known folde...

File Locking without Sharepoint/DAV
I am wondering if the native File Locking that MS Word/Excel provide works when the files are stored on a DFS share? Or is Sharepoint/DAV needed even for locking MS Word/Excel files for edits? saqib http://www.full-disk-encryption.net ...

DFSR between forests?
Is this possible on R2? There seems to be conflicting information. The main "Designing Distributed File Systems" doc in Technet says DFSR only works within the same forest, but I've read elsewhere that cross-forest trusts are OK. Any definitive answer on this? Thanks. Cam...

R2 Namespace Server Best Practices?
The main question I have is if we want multiple domain based roots should the namespace servers be members servers or domain controllers? Just to have multiple roots you have to be running R2 Enterprise edition which just doesnt make sence to me to upgrade our DC's to Enterprise when you never cluster DC's and none of our DCs have more than 4gb of memory in them! What are other people ...

Metrics for WAN requirements on multi-site DFS-R?
Hi, all! Are there any metrics available that will help us determine the WAN requirements for setting up a DFS-R link between two sites in the same domain? We currently have a single T1 dedicated to inter-office traffic that currently has very little utilization. Thanks for any and all suggestions, pointers, links, etc! :) Jack ...

DFS Referral..?
HI all, Wonder if you can help. We have users connecting in to the network via a Citrix Gateway unit. They need to access a folder called 'Commercial' which actually resides on a server in the same location as the Citrix Box. For some reason when they log in they are being pointed to the main DFS share which is also hosted on a box at one of our other sites that doesn't hold the 'Co...

DFS Management snap-in
I can't seem to find the snap-in to use from WinXP. The cheezy old Distributed File System snap-in is all that comes with the administration pack, and it's missing most of the features of the new DFS Management Console from R2. Does anyone know how to get that same R2 DFS Management snap-in to install on XP? ...

Ultrasound collection failing on 2003 DCs in mixed forest
I have a test lab windows 2000 native mode forest with a parent and three child domains. Ultrasound has been running happily for several years. I have recently started adding new 2003R2 DCs as part of the upgrade process but am getting WMI access denied errors when attempting to query the new DCs that are in the child domains (with one exception, the PDCe in one domain). The Ultrasound p...

DFS and Permissions
Currently working on and AD migration project and a DFS project is also going on at the same time. The DFS team went ahead and moved data over for users' home directories which have their NT\username not AD\username. Dfs Replication Error
Hi, they are varies days to you that I do not succeed to understand as the retort service never does not work correctly. WINS required for multi subnet 2003 domain using DFS with 2k&XP clients ?
Hi. We are deploying a new small network (single domain over multiple subnets) with the O/Ss below and would appreciate if anyone could clarify whether we should setup WINS Servers on the two domain controllers ? In particular does the use of 2003 R2 DFS/DFSR and 'Network Places' require NETBIOS and therefore in our case due to multiple subnets WINS Servers ? 2 x 2003 R2 SP2 DCs [Bot...

2003 R2 sp1 vs sp2 and dfs-r
We're currently running sp1 on all of the servers participating in dfs-r except for one of the branch servers which is running sp2. I've thought about installing sp2 in an effort to fix the problem I mentioned in my first post, however I wouldn't be able to install it on all of the servers. I could put it on my hub server and most of my branch servers, but there are a couple that don't h...

Initial DFS replication on a WAN
I have a file server where we only have user shares. The user volume is roughly 700GB in size. (Note, the space available is 700GB but it's about 80% full). I would like to implement DFS replication on a 10MB WAN link to a disaster recovery site. Can I do the initial replication across that wan link? (to allow about 1mbps free so as not to saturate the link) and set up a schedule ...
