upgrading server to new hardware, same name but need to update lin
We are upgrading a server to new hardware. DFS has about 250 target links
that point to \\server\share.
Since the new server is going to have the same name, but a new SID is it
true that all the target links will need to be removed from \\server\share
and added back (even though the path is the same) because this updates the
SID in AD?
I believe this is the case, but it is a bit of m...

Namespace Server no longer available
I recently lost a namespace server due to a hardware failure. I cannot
restore the original server so I had to rebuild a new one from scratch on new
hardware. One of my DFSR roots (Public) was hosted on it. I have decided to
host this namespace on an existing server rather than the new one for ease of
administration (this other server already hosts my second of two namespaces).

Diagnostic report
One hub server and so far 4 branch servers. All Win 2k3 R2 with the latest
updates. Scheduling a diagnostic report using task scheduler and an account
set up for this purpose succeeds on 3 of the 4 replication groups.
The fourth gives version vector errors and DCOM errors (access denied) in
the diagnostic report. Manually running the report results in the same
version vector errors and ...

DFS-R and the Slow sync process
Hi,
for quite some time we've had issues with 4412 events appearing on two
DFS-R replication partners in the middle of the night, saying that
files have been changed on both servers and a conflict resolution has
been done.
This happens shortly after 1 a.m. (nobody in the offices at this
time).
Bad thing: the files disappear on both servers. Shouldn't one server
"win" in the conflict re...

DFS-R data collection scenario
Hi,
we've implemented the data collection scenario, where multiple branch
servers replicate their data to a hub server, where it is backed up to
tape.
The MS documentation says that a maximum of 1 TB of data per server
has been tested, which is not that much in a data collection scenario.
I understand this is not a hard limit, right? But will MS support the
environment if we have more...

List replication groups
I understand dfsradmin can be used to create and manage replication groups,
if you know the explicit name of the replication groups.
I have not found a way to list all the replication groups. I am trying to do
this via a command line. Am I missing something?
example for Namespaces:
dfsutil /Domain:<DomainNameHere> /view ( This will list all the NameSpaces)
Thanks for any h...

DFS on 2003 w/o WINS/NetBios
Hi,
I have a question about DFS in a non WINS environment. The setup:
Server 1 - A DC, NT2003 R2 x64 SP2. Also does DNS.
Server 2 - Same config, another DC. Does DNS.
Both are catalog servers and both are namespace servers for the DFS
shares.
DNS is both domains is AD integrated. Everything is on one subnet.
I'm in the middle of a domain restructure (2000 to 2003). DFS is in

Newbie -- Where do deleted files go?
I have a home folder on a DFS server which is mapped as my "Z" drive. When I
delete a file in my home (DFS) folder, it doesn't go to my local Recycle Bin.
[1] Where does it go and can it be restored by my local administrator?
[2] Can my local administrator program DFS so that all user-deleted files go
to the local Recycle Bins on the user's computer?...

DFS Replication basics in 2003
I'm trying to set up file replication between two servers. One is a PDC (SBS
2003) and one is a BDC (Win 2003 Enterprise, NOT R2).
I add the DFS root, but I never see the context menus to set up replication.
I've tried right clikcing on everything and nothing mentiones replication.
Even after I add a link (which I don't need do I, if all I want to do is
replicate files), I still don't see ...

DFS root removal issue
I have DFS setup to a single network share.
Users are mapped to the actual share on the server not the dfs.
When I delete the dfs link to the share the root is deleted too and users
are not able to access the network share so I have to recreate the dfs root
and link again in order for them to access this share.
Once done so access to the mapped share works fine again.

DFS-R Update was subsumed?
Hello,
I recently had a problem when integrating a server in a DFSR
architecture. The initial replication was done on a pre-populated
folder, without problems (that's why I thought and what logs showed).
There was a final event 4104, and no particular error.
However, I noticed after some time that some files haven't been
replicated during the initial replication (there was a slight
diff...

Just a quick question (cross posted to AD section as well).
I'm setting up a DFS share.
ServerA at site A is on DomainDDD for example.
ServerB at site B is on DomainDDD as well.
The share will be set up for ServerA and ServerB for replication obviously.
All computers in site A and site B will be the DomainDDD - all active
directory.

Safe to have ShadowCopy enabled on volumes containing DFS Shared folders ?
Hi. We have 2 x 2003 DCs which host a single DFS root. The DFS shares are
made up of some local data folders on the DCs and some from other 2000 and
2003 Servers. If possible could anyone confirm if it is safe and acceptable
to host DFS accessible folders/data on volumes with ShadowCopy enabled ? I
understand that the accessible ShadowCopy backups may vary between
replicated shares.
