DFS Security context
We are currently running Windows 2003 R2 and the new DFS. What security
context does DFS run under. In other words, what's the minimum permissions
required on the folders to be accessible by DFS? Is it "System"?

DFSR errors replicating with SAN array
We have recently moved to R2 DFS and have set up namespaces and
configured replication between several servers at different sites. All
is working well, apart from replication with the SAN array on one
server, which generates various errors (see below) whenever
replication is started. The same server has no problems replicating a
folder on its local drive.
This SAN array was previously atta...

Is One-way replication possible?
We have two Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise servers in two different location,
let's call them Server A and Server B. Is it possible to do just a one-way
replication between them. We just want the data to be replicated from
Server A to Server B. If a file is deleted or modified on Server B, we
don't want it to be deleted of modified on Server A. We just want Server B
be a replica of Serve...

Disable dfs folder target via command line
Does anyone know of a way to disable a folder target via command line? I
wrote a script that creates my folders and adds the folder targets to the
namespace, there is a folder target I'd like added, but set to disabled and
can be manually enabled later if need be.
Does anyone know if there is a command to do this? Perhaps within dfscmd
which I use to create the folder targets?
Thanks...

How to access DFS share
We have a requirement to access a DFS share in another domain. Our local
domain has no trust at all to this remote one, but we do have provided user
accounts for the remote domain which we can manually authenticate with. All
forests/domains are Win2k3 native.
Is there any way at all we can access this remote resource from our domain?
To complicate matters, theres a firewall between the ...

dfs problems
We want to replicate the files on our Windows Server Standard Edition 2003
SP1 to the Windows 2003 Server R2 for a backup.
We are in a workgroup environment and not on a domain.
I have my root set up on Windows Server R2 and the link to the Windows
Standard Edition SP1.
But I have no replication tab anywhere.
Could someone help me out.
I'm new at this also.
Thanks

DFS & FRS
It seems that one of our administrators has setup a FRS service that is
replicating the data for the same target paths as a DFS namespace folder.
What is most interesting, is that the DFS management console, the DFS
namespace folder seems to know it exists ( does not show it as a published
replication group) but will not allow you to rename the target folder or do
anything else with the...

DFS Supported on SBS?
I have a Win2003 SBS R2 SP2 as domain controller and a joined Win2003 R2 SP2
acting in TS and FS roles.
I would like to maintain a replica of our LOB databases folder on the TS/FS
server. This would be a one-way replication and is to supplement our tape
backup on the SBS,
I have to run adprep.exe /forestprep first and it looks like it has to be
run on the SBS since it is the Schema M...

DFS UNC Path File access issue
We recently implemented a DFS solution between two windows server 2003
machines. We are changing processing over and would like to programmatically
read and write from a DFS UNC path, instead of referencing the physical path
on either server.
We are implementing this process in .NET so integration shouldn't be a
problem, however, when the process trys to read/write from the DFS ...

upgrading a dfs namespace server
I am upgrading a server that is a namespace server and has about 250
target links in the namespace pointing to it. The server will keep the
same name, but I believe since the SID is going to change I cannot
simply leave the DFS configuration alone and expect it to work.
Do I have to remove/re-add the server from the namespace servers +
remove/re-add all the targets in the DFS folders so the...

DFS Replication setup question
Hi,
We have 2 Win2003-SP1 domain controllers, and 1 Win2000-SP4 domain
controller. We already are running a DFS root for many years but not for
replication (kind of a namespace only, collecting shares from different
servers and mapping in one folder tree). But now i need to replicate some
folders (around 150GB) with a branch office connected with a 10Mbps link.
Following are my questi...

DFS Replication - Choosing Cost
Hey all,
I am about to deploy DFS into my network soon.
I want the clients to use one server only for most of the time, since we
dont have that many clients. Then if this server fails, fail over to the
second server that contains a replica of the first.
I plan to enable replication, but keep the second server as a running
replica for redundancy.
If i remember correctly you can se...

DFS-R Initial Replication Hang
We've recently migrated all of our servers from 2003 to 2003 R2 to utilize
the DFS-R engine in R2. We've been migrating jobs from FRS to DFS-R one at a

topology is a hub and spoke, but not all of our replication jobs are hub and
spoke; most have 2 folder locations so they were set up as full mesh in dfs-r

DFS over gigabit local lan performance is extremely slow, while CIFS is fine - moving a target of 1 file
Why is it that my 2003 server (without r2) can saturate a gigabit
crossover moving via CIFS (\\server\share), but yet will only utilize
1% of the connection when replicating via DFS. This is on a dual
processor 3.0 ghz xeon with 2GB of memory and NO load on the cpu when
processing replication.
It seems like DFS is pre-eptively throttling bandwidth over a local
lan. Anyone care to comment...
