Private Cluster Communications
Anyone know of issues when using a small, 5 port, switch instead of a small hub for the private cluster communication? I tried to order a small hub and I was told they are discontinuing them. I can only get switches now. I'm creating a three node Windows server 2003 cluster and I would prefer to not have any surprises....

A/P and A/A
new to MS Cluster. what's the difference between A/P and A/A when using quorum cluster? When talking about Active and Passive what compoment does it refer to? In a two node cluster how to make both nodes active, for example SQL? How about in a N+1 cluster? how to define which node is Passive? I guess you can do this when you create VS by adding a preferred node? In a N+1 cluste...

Is SNMP Needed ?
Is SNMP needed in a two-node MS Windows Server 2003, SP1 Cluster (two IBM 3850 servers using RAID 6M for shared drives) ? I'm not concerned with the central-office monitoring issue here. The reason I'm asking that SNMP service constatntly chews up between 8 and 13% of CPU time on both nodes !? In other words, SNMP is the biggest CPU user. TIA ...

Cluster Nodes Not Failing Over - Physical Disk Resource in
We have a Windows 2003 Enterprise Sp1 Active/Passive Cluster consisting of 2 IBM xSeries 445 servers with DS4300 (FAStT600) attached to both. We are now experiencing the following symptoms if we try and fail a group over which contains physical disk resources they won't move until the node we are trying to move them to is re-booted. The re-booting resolves this for a short while however invar...

Unable to add node to cluster
Hello, I am in the middle of replacing a node in a cluster. I am unable to complete the adding nodes to the cluster wizard in w2k3 sp2 enterprize edition. During reanalyzing the cluster the failure code 0x00138f appears and Microsoft leans towards the ip's being incorrectly configured. Any help would be appreciated. Cluster service restart and Exchange 2003
Currently seem to have a memory leak with the inetinfo on a 2003 exchange server cluster. The Windows server is at SP1. Apparently the SP2 has a fix for this memory leak but here is the question. If I stop the SMTP virtual instance within the cluster and then restart the IIS service on the server itself will this cause the cluster to sense a failure and try to failover to the other no...

Print Spooler Performance
Hi Everyone, Recently, my Print Spooler resource has been taking an age to fail over. When it was first implemented (beginning of 2007), it was very quick to fail over. Since then, only a handful of printers have been added, which are identical to some exisiting printers, and use the exisiting drivers. Although Printing generally is not an issue, it is when I fail it over that issu...

Windows 2000 Print Cluster - .BUD files?
Anyone have experience with .BUD files on Windows 200 print clusters? We have a 3 year old Windows 2000 print cluster. We operate the cluster in active/active mode. One cluster node blue-screened, so we ended up evicting that node, rebuilding the operating system and then re-joined the server to the cluster. After the re-join, and print migrator restore, we could see the ports and printer n...

Exporting Printer Ports Settings?
Hi, I have Print Server Cluster on Windows Server 2003 R2 OS with over 400 printers, and I want to export complete settings. Also I can only export some setting with Print Migrator 3.1 or Print Management Con...

reboot a 2 node file cluster
We have a couple of 2 node Win 2003 EE R2 SP1 file clusters - DAS for OS, SAN or iSCSI for user data - that we wish to implement quarterly maintenance reboots on. In the past we have simply logged on to physical node 2, shut it down, waiting ffor virtual node 2 to fail over to physical node 1 then shutdown physical node 1. We would then bring up physical node 1, wait about 5 mins, br...

2003 Microsoft Cluster Configuration Question
I know this might seem stupid, but my boss is adamant about setting up our cluster in a way that seems wrong to me. We are creating a two node cluster with Dell PE 6850's connected to a PV220s. The 6850's are loaded with 8 Gb RAM and quad core xeon processors. The backend cluster is going to run an application that should not require allot of I/O. He wants to setup the 6850's (they...

understand quorum
I need to understand more about how quorum works. Here is list of my questions. 1. in a A/P cluster if active node lost access to the quorum what will happen? Does it trigger a failover? 2. in a A/P cluster if both nodes lost access to the quorum what will happen? 3. I think each node has a local copy of the quorum. Does it have partial or complete information of the quorum? 4. ...

Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 & VMware
Hi, I was tasked with finding out if it is possible to have Windows CCS 2003 running with VMWare. Is there any good references/links about the feasibility of this? Thank a lot. Alek...

Cluster without a domain controller
Everyone: I have two Dell PowerEdge 2950 and a NAS (Dell MD3000) that I would like to configure in a cluster. This whole solution will go into a hosted environment and run a web based application. Bästa_lösningen
Jej!
