Problems that occur when you reboot both nodes of a 2 node cluster
One of the cluster here was rebooted over the weekend by another admin. He rebooted both nodes of a 2 node cluster. Since then, Error 333 "An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the Registry." We have since moved the resources from one machine to the other...

Standalone DFS root on W2003 R2 Majority Node Cluster Config
I want to create several high available DFS stand-alone roots on a cluster so that I can consolidate and virtualize several fileservers. Unfortunately I cannot use shared storage on ESX so I thought that Majority node clustering would be the best solution. I do not want to use the solution presented in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829885 since it provides no high availability and also beca...

subinacl application error
I'm attempting to correct ownership on about 1000 of our 10,000 user folders with subinacl. When I run the command (subinacl /subdirectories \\mh\users\aabbcc /setowner=domain\aabbcc) , SUBINACL actually sets the ownership but hangs and does not return to the command prompt. If I press ctrl C, I get an error window. Title: subinacl.exe application error. Error: The instruction at "0x7...

Question about resources and groups
Hi, We currently have around 40 cluster volumes (mostly data storage...home directories, shared directories, etc) on a 6 node Novell cluster and are currently testing a migration to an MS cluster. The questions I have are : 1. Would 6 nodes still be enough to run in an MS cluster? We won't be clustering DNS, DC, SQL etc... 2. Would it be wise to create a seperate group for each ...

Help adding third node.
Hey all, When I built the cluster I followed some directions I found from DELL. I started the second server and added drive letters to the LUN's on the SAN. Then I turned it off (or stoped the os from loading anyway). I booted the first server and assigned the same drive letters and installed cluster services. It has worked without problems for a long time. Now I am adding a third and fourth...

GeoCluster with Truly-Synchronous Software Mirroring
Are there any existing software-only add-ons for MSCS that provide a replicated volume resource, including support for a replicated quorum volume, that is truly *synchronously* replicated? I was just looking at NSI GeoCluster and their marketing material doesn't make it clear if this solution is truly synchronous. Some of the things I've read indicate perhaps it's asynchronous: http://w...

File Encryption on Win2k3 clustered file server question
So according to the MS Cluster FAQ, EFS is only available on a cluster if you have roaming profiles turned on. Is there another way to use EFS on an active/passive clustered file server without having to use roaming profiles? Or is there any other type of file encryption software available to allow the user to encrypt files on a clustered file server? Thanks!...

mscs cluster custom resource-dll hangs on W2K3 sp1
We have implemented a custom MSCS cluster resource-dll. This custom cluster resource-dll is built using Visual Studio 2005. Our observation is that after configuring the MSCS with our custom resource-dll, the cluster admin console becomes unresponsive. This is not always reporiducuble. Internally our custom resource dll makes call to ClusterResouceControl() api for CLUSCTL_RESOURCE_S...
