Media disconnected?
Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with Win XP MCE and a Dell Wireless
Minicard 1500. I had to format my hard drive and installed the right
drivers for all the components.
However, I can't see the networks that I can reach usually with my
wireless card. All the other Ethernet cards are disabled. When I type
the ipconfig command, it says that my wireless card is disconnected
(Media disconne...

questions:
1. I will be connected for a while with a great connection, then it
suddenly drops out and cannot be found on the available wireless connections
for a few minutes. Then it reconnects like nothing happened.
2. While using the hardware firewall, I can still get pinged. I have

looking for NIC that doesn't require user to be logged in
I picked up a Linksys WMP54G yesterday and installed it on a W2K Pro SP4
machine. Unfortunately, I found out a user needs to be logged on in order
for the NIC to connect to the AP. Is there a NIC out there where the
software runs as a Service, allowing the machine to connected to the network
without having to be logged on.
Basically, I'm looking to have a wireless network, but have it act...

Wireless Network Connection Status window
I recently changed Linksys network adapters from a PCI card adapter to a USB
adapter on my Windows XP computer. Before the change, the Wireless Network
Connection Status window that appears when I double click the connection
status icon would display the sent and receive activity in bytes. Now the
activity is displayed as packets.
Is there a way to change the display back to bytes?

School wireless umbrella causing Norton IS 2006 to alert constantl
I am connected to the net at school via multiple gateways & routers that is
causing NIS2006 to alert constantly. This is Exacerbated by the fact that the
NIS2006 personal fiewall networking wizard is not detecting the wireless
gateways & routers so it will not do it automatically.
Next the IP address seems to be constantly changing (this is the cause of
the alerts). So I tried to set i...

identifying MAC address
Is it possible to identify a MAC address on a network by the MAC address.
For example is there way for me to type like 00:16:B6:A2:94:64 and find out
where on the network that MAC address is located?
I have a MAC address showing up in my firewall that, as far as I can tell,
is not associated with any device on my network........
Thanks.

sometimes even a dip, causing a temporary loss of connection.

convenient ? What is a typical gain, both for the wireless embedded ca...

being able to gain access into the computer.
