MCE vs Tivo thoughts
I've had my media center pc since Christmas and I thought I'd finally
found a way to replace the tivo. I've upgraded my TIvo to the hilt and

Vista Premium and Xbox 360 won't connect
I have searched all over and cannot figure out what my problem is. I have a
Gateway PC running Vista Premium and McAfee Security Center, I have a hard

Vacation, power outage, how to set so PC comes back up and MCE sta
Hello.
If I'm on vacation and there's a power outage, is there any way to make an
MCE2005 desktop system start up again when the power comes back on? Letting
the machine crash would be fine, except I think it won't restart when the
house power comes back on, right?
My old Compaqs used to, (W2kpro) but I'm told that was a flaw, if you

WinTV Model 401 - Error Tuner Not Found in MCE
I have a MCE 2005 setup which I want to add a WinTV Model 401 that reports
"Tuner Not Found". The card is a PCI which reports itself as having the
model 34132 chip. Is there a way to get the system to recognize this card?
I can not find anything on Hauppauge's website regarding MCE.

A necessary component is not available...
I just upgraded from XP Pro Sp2 to Vista Ultimate.
From inside Media Center, each time I try to access my libraries, even to
set them up, I get the error message "A necessary component of Windows Media
Center is currently not available. Restart Windows Media Center".

Hi,
I have a cable provider Surewest, here in Sacramento and they switched all
their set-top boxes to AminoNet 110. When I try to set up the IR blaster, MCE
tells me that it does not recognize the remote and that I should select the
set-top box manually. But there is no Amino listed in the list.

Xbox 360 does not see DVD library on Vista Ultimate
I hope someone can help me with this.
I have PC running Vista Ultimate on which I have Media Center configured. I
configured the Media Center extender on both my Xbox 360 and PC. Everything

I am getting a "System Standby Failed" error message when I try to put system
in standby mode. The full length message is: The service 'Microsoft .NET
Framework v1.0.3705 Update' is preventing the machine from entering standby.

Beep when running Media Edition
My Dell laptop beeps every 30 to 90 seconds after boot-up etc. No programs
seem to be affected and everything seems to sun smoothy.
However, this beep is most annoying, especialy when I'm watching a DVD.
Does anyboy know what and why this is happening and is there a "cure"....

Balloon tips not appearing for one user
On my Windows XP MCE 2005 PC I cannot get the balloon tips to work. They
ONLY work on the Close, Maximize and Minimize buttons.
Tooltips are not appearing as expected for:
- File or folder icons
- The icons in the system tray
- The start button or start menu
- In IE7 on images or links
- The explorer tool bar

folder permission in old hard drive
recently, my hard drive got infected by a virus and as a result, the BIOS was

Recording with the media center
I have recorded a lot of shows with the media center and am running out of
hard drive space. I added a large external drive to keep all the recordings
but I can't find out how to set the media center recordings to my new drive.
There does not seem to be a means to tell it where to store the recordings
and everything goes to my C drive. Can anyone help?...
