Hi all,
I'm installing Windows Live Messenger 8.1 on a Windows XP box. I'm
going to create non-admin accounts for users to use. They will
essentially have "read only" access to the hard disk, apart from their
own areas. Hence they can't install software. For viruses, this is a
great way of sealing the box against them, but it would prevent users

Mobile text feature
Is there any reason why some phone numbers in the text feature would show a
phone next to the contact name and some will not?
I also have contacts with international phone numbers that IM will not text
to which I can not delete via "edit contact". Any ideas?

Spam in Live Messanger? Using HTML for clarity

Paste issue
Whenever I copy an image from a web page and paste it on messenger, two
images are pasted. One of them is a .tmp file and the other one is the
actual file. This has just begun happening and dont know why. How can I fix
this? I was using msn messenger 8.1 and upgraded to 8.5 but still does it....

WLM 8.5 Update 1
WLM had an error and it closed, when I reopenned told me scritps had been
disable, I pressed OK but I can't remember where can I enable them again,
something in the Tools menu, has anyone happenned this before...

Icons don't show up in main message window
I write on behalf of my friend. She cannot receive custom emoticons. when I
send them to her, she just see the code. Some of the custom icons already
stored on her computer show up in messages to me, but not in her window.
Others (like the Tweety icon suite she downloaded through Messenger) she sees

Messenger, vista, and audio
Hello
My PC has double boot for XP home and Vista home basic.
Under XP, no problem with Windows live messenger.
Under Vista, no audio is possible : cursors for audio are blocked.
Setup for audio is OK.
If I establish audio contact, audio is OK, then if I activate video, I have
video AND audio OK !!!
Is there a fix for this problem ?

Log In Problems
Hello, I am at a convention in Kansas City and have been having trouble
connecting to chat with people on Win-Live. I have Vista and the latest
version of Win-Live (forget the number) but when connecting to my hotel's
wireless I cannot log completely in, my friends say they see me as logged in
but I cant get past connecting in the signing in progress and it will not
time out or anything....

I downloaded WLM but when it goes to insall it says I am not the
administrator. I just bought this laptop with Visa preinstalled. I am the
only user, and it shows I am the administrator. Any suggestions?

can't receive message unless i talk first
I can't receive message, unless I start to chat with others. After a period
of idle, i can't receive message again, need to "active" the conversation
again.
this problem appears after i upgrade my hotmail into live hotmail ( and i
changed it back). i'm using msn messsage 8.1.0178 and windows xp media center
edition sp2.

Video fails to enable in video conversation
If I or my contact attempts to open a video conversation I can see their
video but neither of us can see mine. If either of us attempts to enable my
web cam while in an audio only conversation, the conversation is closed. My
web cam functions correctly in two capture programs, Skype, and in the

i have used wlm 8,5 for a while but today i refused to login so i uninstalled

When ever I try to start a voice chat, I get "Messenger is not available
right now. Please try again later. (0x80ef01f8)". old versions used to work
fine, I think the problem first started around 8.1?. Am now trying 8.5beta1
and still broken. Any body got a link to download the oldest version that
can run ontop of Vista64?

plug in support
does anyone know if there are plans to provide plug-in capabilities into
messenger, so people could add in support for other chat clients, automated
messaging etc. ?
If not do you know the reasons that they will not be providing plug-in

We are getting the error 81000378 when we try to login WLM in my organisation.
But some time we are able to login WLM also. We can login MSN w/o any error.

MUI support for Windows Live Messenger
I think that that some sort of the MUI dlls and installations for the Windows
Live Messenger are applicable.
The tricks that making a "mui\{LCID}\" folders, the put the language dlls is
no longer work in Vista, which was previously works in the XP installations.
The support of the MUI for localised strings would be proudly considered,

WLM 8.5 not opening hyperlinks
Hello.
I currently have Windows Live Messenger Version 8.5.1238.0601 installed on
Windows Vista Home Premium.
My problem is that whenever I try to click html formatted links (i.e. the
ones that are blue underlined) my browser will not open the link for me.
This occurs if links are typed into the conversation window, and so to for
link that are in a person's contact file website sect...

I can't send winks when I'm offline. Don't know if this is an error or not,
but I think winks should be able to be sent even if it is an offline
conversation.

WM6 problems with Live Contacts
Can anyone help.
I have recently added WM6 to my blackjack, most aspects of it are running
well, i can get my mail no problem, problem lies with my Live contacts. I am
getting a server problem reported to me;when it does let me log into
messenger i cant see any contacts. however as soon as i change my status it
updates on other computers instantly. also if i go and add a contact i know...
