See who has added you to their contact list
If you go to Tools > Options > Privacy you can choose to see who has added
you to their contact list.
I have instances of people adding me to their list, almost immediately after
I've added them to my list, but without us having exchanged messages or been
in contact for some years. Is this merely coincidence or is their a

Do your contacts get stored online...so I can login anywhere?
Can I login to messenger anywhere and have access to my contacts and their
info I've entered or do I have to save a file on my computer? I have file
for backup purposes, but......

View contact's webcam doesnt work in WLM Version 8.1 Build 8.1.017
I have been trying to view my baby daughter thru WLM when am away fr home on
business but i can't even when the messenger window says Connection
established all i see is 'Webcam sponsored by...' in that sectionand nothing
eventually happens
How do I solve this?...

Since I've upgraded to windows vista i can't get my messenger up and running?
Does anyone know what I have to do? it keeps telling me about DEP

Minor Rant about hidden menu-bar
Since Windows 3.1 I've been able to double-click the control-icon in the
title-bar of a window to close the window/application. In Windows Live
Messenger is the option to hide the menu bar. While this makes Windows Live
Messenger look much better, double-clicking on what appears to be the
control-icon instead maximizes the window. This is clearly wrong behaviour!
I hope a future vers...

everytime i connect on vidoe call just when loads it just cuts off. IM is
fine but everytime I conect to video call it just cuts off. it was working

WLM security issue ?
Hello all,
Does somebody have an idea about what I see with WLM :
WLM is launched automatically to the opening of session and in mode "off
line" (I don't change this status). Then, using NetStat or TCPView, I note
that connections "were established" between my WLM and a user identified by

MSN Live questions
I uploaded messanger Live today, the problem I am having is I am trying to
attach a photo, it will allow me to attach a file, but no photo. I followed
all the steps, the problem I see is under the old e-mail it had attach not
upload, the new one have upload. Under the MSN live on my e-mail account it
doesn't give me the option of upload, just attach and its not working.

Tabs & Backgrounds & Winks
When I am at work I am able to get new display pics, backgrounds, winks &
emoticons when I opt to change any of them. However when I try at home I only
get whats available on my PC. Can anyone explain this to me?
I am also ony seeing the contacts Tab at home.

audio quality 'force' setting available?
When connected to the internet with an aircard, the audio portion of a video
call does not auto adjust to lower quality (telephone grade) sound when the
bandwidth becomes limited. the video i dont really care too much about, but
audio choppiness is very annoying. this connection will support 24kpbs mp3
broadcasts without interruption, but unless in audio only mode (and sending

All sorts of problems.
Ever since I installed Windows Live Messenger from 7.5 I have been having a
number of problems. One, I am unable to see peoples display pictures about
80% of the time and when I can see it it is only for select people and I can
always see theirs in a message window but never in my main contact list for

Messenger Educational 'bot'
I'm not sure where the best place is to post this, but anyway, here goes.
I noticed AOL is currently planning to offer educational content, in the way
of SAT prep materials, to students via an IM 'bot' interface in AIM. I was
wondering if MSN Messenger would be interested in something similar to this?

Old email address
I am trying to install live messenger 8.1 but when i do this it loads with my
old email address that is not even active anymore. I don't know how to get

Can't receive messages from other contacts.
I'm able to login to my MSN Messenger and see all my friends and they are
able to see that I'm online. I can send them messages no problem, but can't
receive them.
My friends can't send me any messages or initiate conversations at all. If
I initiate a conversation I'm able to receive messages from my friends,

WISHLIST: to have better and more efficient emoticon manager
The current emoticon manager is quite limited in functions and its usability.
i would like to suggest these:
1. to allow more than 8 char shortcut to an icon. this will be useful for
ppl that store tonnes and tonnes of icon and wish to differentiate them by a
lenghty name.
2. to allow on-screen prediction of emotion with similar keys, e.g. pressing
':my' + 'ctrl-a' will shows all the emo...

Windows Live Hotmail
I got a Windows Live Hotmail message from Microsoft asking me to
download an update. Before I click the update bar, let me ask, it is
genuine? I ask since it is not an automatic update, I got the e-mail,
apparently from Microsoft. Want to make sure that it is not span or
something else.

LifeCam Initialization Error
I bought a Microsoft LifeCam VX 6000. It plugs into a 2.0 USB port. I run
Live Messenger v8.1. OS is Windows Vista Ultimate.
When I tried to start up the LifeCam a dark grey screen comes up which says
"Initialization error." Can't do anything with it after that.
Using Live Messenger I can access the video set up and see my picture in
video and hear sounds etc.

Microphone not working with Vista
I have the Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 with integrated Mic and Windows Live
Messenger 8.1. On the Audio/Video Wizard the Microphone works, but in a
video call the microphone won't work. I have a dual boot set up with
Windows XP and when I'm running XP everything works fine with video calls.
Is there an issue with the LifeCam VX-3000 microphone and Windows Live
Messenger on Vista?

I cant initiate session or I got disconnected all the time
I receive the following errors when I cannot initiate session:
error 80070190
error 80070209
Anyone knows what this mean? any suggestion?

Windows Live Messenger has encountered a problem and must close
I had version 8.0 installed and I kept being disconnected and then
re-connected during conversations.
Today I installed version 8.1. Haven't tried a conversation yet, but when I
click on Help, before I am connected to the web page, the message "Windows
Live Messenger has encountered a problem and must close" appears.
I notice that these two problems are being experienced by many people ...

MSN Messenger Username Change Problems
I created a Live ID over a year ago for use with my xbox 360 and messenger
using my blueyonder email address.
Then months later I moved and wanted to change my Live ID sign in name which
was a old blueyonder email address i read that my messenger contacts would
be transfered over so I done as instructed and logged in with my new live id

Messages are not going through
Hello,
When I send an IM to someone on my contact list I receive an error message
saying the message could not be delivered, even though the contact is online.
If the contact sends me a message, I can then reply without a problem. Does
anyone know why this could be happening?
I did uninstall and re-install but still the same problems.

Audio quality autoadjust?
Does someone know if messenger (vista 32 bit) autoadjusts the quality of
audio for spotty wireless connections? Yahoo does, but messenger will not.
