What's quicker, individual GPOs?
I am at an establishment where we currently have 120 policies covering
installs of software through to user restrictions. We have 6 types of
users (for instance) and lockdowns and message popups. According to
the user type then install, restriction and popup applys.
Simple questions:
If you look at startup times for an individual workstation against the
type of user would it be quicker to ...

Setting the desktop wallpaper
Hi, I have a policy that sets the XP desktops/laptops wallpaper to a company
image stored on c: of every machine.
When a user logs on, the image is not displayed fully, maybe 1 inch along
the top of the screen in a thin horizintal strip. The policy sets the image
as stretched which whould fill the screen, but does not on it's own.
However, if you hit f5 to refresh you get the full imag...

GP to allow access to only one folder on a shared drive
Hi,
I'm trying to get a very restrictive Group Policy setup on Windows
2003 STD SP2. I need users to have access to only a single folder
within the E:\ drive. The folder will contain documents which are run
through MS Word.
I've been able to successfully lock down the users to the E:\ drive
itself. They can still use the back/Up button to gain access to other
folders on that same driv...

Accidentally denied read permissions on a policy
Hi all,
I was changing the delegation of a group policy in advanced mode and I
wanted to give a certain group a deny read and apply permission. Well turns
out I accidentally denied the authenticated users group to read and apply
this GPO.
Now, when I look in group policy management the policy's name isn't
displayed anymore and says "inaccessible" and has a stopsign added to the
icon....

My user accounts live in the parent (lu.edu) - I want my users to be able to

computers are members of the ac.lu.edu domain. Right now I have an OU in
ac.lu.edu and a GPO applied to it. I am using loopback processing, since I

Group Policy to set Client Firewall settings
Hi All,
I need to open up quite a few ports on all our client workstations to
allow access from a single defined (internal) IP address (a server).
Obviously I can do that using GP.
However, the number of ports I need to add is quite large, and I am
wondering if there is anyway to store those settings in some kind of
structured data file (CSV for example), and then 'import' that in...

the settings for some of them (not the same ones every time) simply

Power Management GPO?
Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out how to set the power settings of the computers in
my organization. They are almost all Windows XP Pros, a couple Windows 2000

I know that Microsoft set this up so that a standard User does not have
rights to change the power settings and so far I have not been able to find
a way to set them globall...

GPO's are not being pushed to clients that are connecting via wireless.
Basically, they are using the intel connect software and a pre-logon

Applying GPO against a global group
Our high school is doing something different next year. Instead of booking
out four of our computer labs to any teacher, each department (math,
science, English, and social studies) is going to be responsible for their
own lab. Creating GPOs to run against computer accounts that way won't be a
problem. But the students are all in one OU. So we'd like to be able to
apply a specific GP...
